I have my spinnerbait rod spooled with 20 pound bps xps braid. It works fine but the abraision resistance isn't very good at all, also i feel like the bait is not running as deep as it could because of the line. Any suggestions would be great thanks

You can add a Flouro or mono leader. I use 20lb braid with 10lb flouro, some guys like the extra stretch mono gives them. Both of them will help the bait run deeper.

Go with fluorocarbon 12 or 15lbs. You will get much better results and your bait will run deeper. I would never use braid for spinners FWIW

I throw mine in 30# Spiderwire with 12#a fluoro leaders. If its really snaggy ill go up to 17lb fluoro leader. 30 or 40#a braid sounds right to me. Depending on how snaggy your lake is id go between 12-20 floro. The fluoro will help it stay down.

What size spinners are your throwing?

I normally throw 1/2oz and up... i throw a 3/8 every now and again.

Ok. Id either go to straight Fluoro or braid with a fluoro leader. I like Sunline Sniper for fluoro but Seagar makes a line fluoro called Abraizx, (i probably butchered the spelling)

it is a lil cheaper and is really tough....since you said abrasion is a problem for you.

Both are good lines

Edit: oh i almost forgot, why dont you go to tuff line (our new sponsor here) and redeem their free offer. You pay 5 bucks for shipping and you get a spool 20lb line to try out. You are already using 20...

Try p line. Cxx is floro coated. Nice sink, pretty good abrasion strength. 17 will work well, 20 if you are going with 1/2 oz blades

I go with 15 Seaguar Invizx FC. I fish generally 1/2 oz spinners.

I was going to suggest this though not quite that heavy. It is way underrated on the package and generally breaks close at twice the label rating. (12lb breaks at 24lb). Also cxx is not flouro coated that's cx. Cxx is a copolymer though.

As much as I hate to admit it Yozuri Hybrid in 12# should be a very solid and strong line for this technique plus very affordable. I know this line gets suggested quite frequently on here for many different techniques but this would be a good use for it. I am not fond of it for anything else like finesse fishing or bottom contact baits but on my dedicated spinnerbait rod I use a copolymer based line.

I was thinking braid was the way to go on spinners so that you get a better hookset.  I have 30lb braid on a good MH to H powered rod with a fast action tip on my spinner bait setup.  I think it helps reduce bad hooksets that lead to the bass throwing the bait.  I do plan to use strikeback spinner baits this year for the first time.

I was just recently debating this myself for my spinners. I ended up choosing two different set ups. One has 40lb braid for the slop and one has 15lb mono for more open areas.

I was having the same problem with running braid. I was running 30lb braid with no leader. I then switched to a 5:5.1 reel and kept the braid and I have been very happy with the results.

Another vote for P-line CXX. I use 15#

I use 40lb braid to rip spinnerbaits through grass beds.

+1 with no leader if Im using the spinnerbait in open water I will use 20# braid. My rod of choice is a 7' MH-fast

You guys go lite on blade line!? Do you get the bait just around the juice or do you really get it in there??

i can't stand using straight braid for spinnerbaits...it's too limp and gets all wrapped about the wire and the blades. i am, however, very happy with 30# powerpro with 20# seaguar abrazx fluorocarbon leader or just straight 20# flourocarbon like seaguar red label. if you're fishing fast, heavy 20# line is fine.

I have used both yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft #12 and berkley big game mono in 15 lb. and 20 lb. with good results with all three. I probably like the 20 lb. big game the best for spinnerbait fishing. Used it most of last summer with no issues at all, and the price is right.

I run flouro and my spinner bait and crankbait rigs all the time

15lb on my spinner baits and 12lb on my cranks...sometimes smaller if needed
