Super User flyfisher Posted August 28, 2013 Super User Posted August 28, 2013 I think I have been more impressed with asche in the field though. He has made some pretty stellar plays. As far as tommy John surgery goes I think it is like other diseases. Diagnosis and treatment has gotten more refined so people are having the procedures more often I do think it is also related to building up a strong base of endurance that takes years to do and with pitch counts and other restrictions you can pretty much only put out certain types of pitchers unless they are a freak of nature. I compare it to cycling. They have a specific award in the Tour de France for the best young rider. It is widely established and accepted that without having a long period of time train and build up endurance you cannot win the tour. Quote

38 Super Fan Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I'm sure a lot of fans feel this way about their teams, but the Reds have to be the most frustrating team out there. They take 3 of 4 from STL, then sweep the Dodgers, and you're thinking they're finally playing some good baseball, and they may even win the division. Then they turn around and lose back to back series against the Cubs and Brewers, flat out giving away the rubber match today blowing a 5-1 lead.  Giving their fans hope one minute, then crushing them the next, has really become their M.O.  Hey, the thread has gone a little quiet, thought I'd offer up another Reds rant to liven things up a bit. Super User A-Jay Posted September 16, 2013 Super User Posted September 16, 2013 On a Very Good Note -  The Boston Red Sox SWEPT the New York Yankees last night.  The Bean Town Boys have scored 100 runs in the last 15 games.  Clearly the Bronx Bombers are is tough shape but it still felt good.  The ceremony for The Sandman at Fenway Park was nice.  A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted September 16, 2013 Super User Posted September 16, 2013 Anytime the Yanks get swept is music to my ears A-Jay! I saw the game was on fox sat, after a half inning and one closeup of Garadi I decided it was enough and went on to watch college football. Redsox look like the team to beat. I hope my O's can make it in I think O's vs Sox for the right to go to the WS would be a great AL Championship series! Just need the Rays to fade.  38 Special the Reds are still in there though, not to divert but they remind me of the Ravens leading up until last year they had so many season were they were so good on paper, win big against Pit and lose an important game and squeak into the playoffs only to lose after a win or two. Similarly I think the Reds are setup the same, they can play it just matters what mindset they are in that day if they are going to play good or not. Which is crazy for fans, makes for a rollercoaster ride.  Man I haven't been real active because my main head to head team is done, didn't make the top six, finished 8 and playing consolation. Worst finish of my fantasy baseball career. My roto team is doing well however i sapped the IP max. but holding strong think I will keep my No spot. and well football is up and running.  Can't wait for the MLB playoffs. IMO the season is too long, Sept is so boring with all the callups 6 man rotations and sloppy games. Quote

I'll never watch another Reds game if they let the Nats sneak in.  I think the Nats are 4.5 back, with only about 12 games to go that's gonna be real tough to make up. Quote

Those teams that get in a lot and never win it are the worst.  Oh, and a surprise today, Johnny Cueto will start, I didn't see that one coming. Quote

Oh, and a surprise today, Johnny Cueto will start, I didn't see that one coming. Yeah, Cingrani hurt his lat again and might not start again this season. Ceuto was supposed to be bullpen duty but now is pressed into starting. I dropped him awhile back. Hope he can hold up. I haven't heard come playoffs if Cingrani would be back or not. Quote
38 Super Fan Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Surprisingly good start from Cueto too, he's been kind of forgotten, what a huge boost it would be to have him back at 100%. I think Cingrani will able to pitch again this year, but that's just speculation on my part.  Quote

If he can stay on the mound he is deffinitely a good add to your rotation down the stretch. I think Cingrani in the BP down the stretch will be a good add too if he comes back. Good thing with both they are lat issues and not arm so next season hopefully they both will be 100% Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 17, 2013 Super User Posted September 17, 2013 Anyone see Cliff Lee's game last night?? I know it was against the crappy marlins but 14 SO and 4 RBI is pretty amazing for a pitcher and i am sure that made someone's fantasy team very happy. Quote

I was still a little surprised to see that he had such good command after being out so long, only one walk in 5 innings. Rumour has it they could get Sean Marshall back too, odd time of the year to start getting some players back.   Anyone see Cliff Lee's game last night?? I know it was against the crappy marlins but 14 SO and 4 RBI is pretty amazing for a pitcher and i am sure that made someone's fantasy team very happy. Didn't see it, but that's a mighty impressive outing. Quote

Lee is just as old fashion as it gets, I could see him playing in the 20's or 30's Glad they kept him Quote

I wonder which is more rare, the 3 pitch inning or the 9 pitch 3 strikeout inning.........i really need to join that baseball stats site that all the broadcasters use. 1 Quote
38 Super Fan Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 You got me thinking on that one, had to look into it:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_pitchers_who_have_struck_out_three_batters_on_nine_pitches  http://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/3_pitch_inning.shtml  Looks like the "immaculate inning" is more rare. Another oddity, I saw Tony Cingrani strike out 4 batters in an inning earlier this year, and that has been done 66 times. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 I love stats like that guys. Great info! 3 pitch inning is pretty neat. Quote

I have seen the 4 strike out inning before and the 4 out inning is relatively common all things considered.  Baseball stats are part of what makes it so awesome. 1 Quote
