Super User deaknh03 Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Great. A one game playoff to play in the one game playoff. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 One game playoffs are dumb but whoever plays the wild card team could benefit if it is either the rangers or rays since they will have most likely burned their #1 & #2 starters. Quote

Super User MCS Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Looks like Garza tonight so Darvish will be ready for them bosox lol....also interesting Cruz is reinstated from his PED suspension in time for the playoffs so I take it rest of the druggies will be back Quote

38 Super Fan Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 And I have no horse in the race.....So GO REDS!!!! lol may dusty win the big one! Dusty deserves to win one. It's gonna be a tough route with the 1 game playoff though. 1 Quote
aquaholic Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I hate this new wild card system. There should be one wild card team per league. A one game playoff is a fluke. Any team in baseball can get lucky and  win one game. At least make it a 3 game series. Quote
38 Super Fan Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I'd rather kill the wild card enirely, but I actually like the 5 team format better than the 4 team format. The 4 team system didn't penalize the wild card team at all. I like that the wild card teams now have a much tougher path. Yes, anything can happen in one game, but wild cards don't deserve to be in anyway. 1 Quote

I agree the wild card playoff now makes the wildcard managers think about who they want starting this game and then who they want starting in the short 5 game series. It definitely ups the strategy bar. I see now that the playerline report was wrong they started Perez and paid the Price LOL..so Tampa threw their ACE but they have Moore and Cobb and Archer so I think they will be OK....I am hoping for a Cle/Tampa vs Cinci WS.....If Tampa gets in I am gonna try to go to a game LOL why not right Quote
38 Super Fan Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Yeah, I'd love to see Cleveland win the WS, (assuming they don't play the Reds of course) Cle. sports fans have suffered long enough. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted October 1, 2013 Super User Posted October 1, 2013 I still think the WC team is not as much of a disadvantage to the division winner. Yeah they burn their starter which is fine but they still only need to win a 5 game series which given they will be on an emotional high after winning hte play in and then playing a team that hasn't pl;ayed in a week puts them at an advantage.  I still think if they keep a 5 game series then it should be 4 at the division winner and one at the WC team in a 2-1-2 format or move them all to a 7 game series. To many weird things can happen when a team only has to win 3 games to advance. 38 Super Fan Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Well I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Reds flat out have no heart. 6 consecutive losses to round out the 2013 season. 3 playoff trips in 4 years, and not one time have they advanced. I'm afraid this Reds team is never gonna win anything.  Quote

I cannot believe the Pirates. Now I am hoping cards take them out and the winner of the other two teams.....can't stand the dodgers or the braves Quote

He saw Stan the Man play, story goes Stan crushed one on the roof and out into the street behind the right field bleachers, at sportsman with his dad who passed when he was 12 so it is one of the fond memories for both of us. We met Stan and Ozzie at card shows both true gentlemen. Super User MCS Posted October 10, 2013 Super User Posted October 10, 2013 I know we got a ways to go but wouldn't it be kinda ironic if LA meets Boston in the WS. Even better, no disrespect to the BoSox, if Crawford and Gonzalez led LA to a win. Just saying that matchup could be very interesting and dramatic. Quote

But you have brought up something I overlooked. and something I enjoy even better....rooting for the underdog, journeyman, unexpected hero......Nava and his rise along with the others that filled the roles on the team are a better story than Crawford or Gonzalez. It would also be a display of "big names and big money don't win WS". I also love big Papi's attitude towards the city and the team. Also his triumph over injury is a great story and what a way to finish a winding down career...I am sold! LA vs Boston WS with BoSox winning! I cannot forget Lackey's resurgence, I felt bad for that guy last season the terrible numbers, divorce, injuries. He put that behind him this yr. Go Bosox!!! 1 Quote

Super User MCS Posted October 10, 2013 Super User Posted October 10, 2013 See - Now you Get It ~ (I know, I'm Bias)  A-Jay  I do get it! With baseball more than anything I am a fan of the game more than a particular team, the history and what the game has meant to Aamerica is so much more than most people these days are aware. So I have a couple of "my" teams but when they aren't involed I can usually find a respectable story or interest in the teams involved to root for. Quote
