Super User flyfisher Posted August 1, 2013 Super User Posted August 1, 2013 Geez, now you're hanging your hat on speculation that its not too much of a stretch that it could have happened after that....time to take the binky out of your mouth and the 2004 Eagles footy pajamas off. It gets real old...BWAH HAHA Actually it was before they got caught not after and facts are facts.  They were confirmed to have cheated for a series of years and to me and many others,  that tarnishes their run of superbowls no matter how many they won.  I just don;t like all the favoritism the patriots have gotten over the years with bad calls and Brady yelling at a ref and then the flag comes out....just let them play.  I remember watching the 1981 super bowl, I was rooting for the Raiders. They kicked the crap outta the eagles like nobody had before in the Super bowl. Now that I look back, I'm pretty sure the raiders had polaroids of Dick Vermeil crying, cheaters! Vermeil always cries....lol that is his signature move i believe   And how about those phillies tonight!!!  1 Quote

The O's however didn't any indication of the breakdown coming ahead of a big contract. I HOPE the Phillies are SMART enough to stay away from that unless it is at a discount. Instead of throwing millions into the wheel chair of a constant DL regular. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 1, 2013 Super User Posted August 1, 2013 It will be hard though as Utley was drafted by the phillies and always plays hard and is having a good season overall. If they offer him 2 years 20M i would be fine but 2 years and 30M pat him on the back and say thanks for your time here.  The phillies do have a pretty unique situation in that Rollins, Howard, Utley, Hamels and Chooch were all drafted by the phillies. That really doesn't happen to often in this day and age. Super User MCS Posted August 2, 2013 Super User Posted August 2, 2013 So Papelbon how bout putting your money where your mouth is and close a game! You hate losing 6 or more are your fault. I am sure Cole hates losing especially when you have thrown the way he has only to have no run support or bullpen!!! 1 Quote

38 Super Fan Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 The Reds definately aren't winning the Central this year. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 The phillies stink. Although i am enjoying watching some of the young guys that wil most likely be on the team next year.  I do really feel bad for Howard. I heard he might be done for the season. Dude has had some bad breaks the past few years.  One thing i do throoughly enjoy seeing is the Nationals tanking. Everyone around here was telling me how good they were and how they are going to set the all time wins record and this includes national media. My stance was they had a bunch of guys play out of their mind last year and there is no way they can repeat the performance this year. They really haven't had that many injuries and people are back to normal. And harper, who is he? Oh yeah, a stupid kid who makes horrible decsions on the basepaths and in the ifeld who happens to have a little pop in his bat. I lovingly referred to the Nationals as falling to the Strasburg curse. Last year was their shot and the management is stupid for not managing him to the point where he could pitch all year. Limit him to 6 innings a game with a skipped start here or there and he can pitch all through the playoffs and possibly change the outcome. Their attitude of "we can do it again" & "world series or bust" is not looked kindly upon by the baseball gods after having their first winning season since they were the expos.. 1 Quote
38 Super Fan Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Yeah, I had nothing against the Nats until last year, I really enjoy watching them fail now. Quote

That would kill the O's. I also hope Alex gets his payday, only because it hurts the yanks. LOL 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 Well Selig didn't use the for the good of the game clause so they aer going to have to pay him since he will be able to appeal and play during the appeal. Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 Oh about Harper it is about as low as you can go when Pete Rose calls u an idiot. Pete hasn't been known for the brightest decisions in and out of baseball Quote

Super User MCS Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 True, but that guy could flat out play the game. Yeah Rose is one case where I think heart and determination added to what skills he had. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 I don't think Harper has any heart....he has a big head and that's about it. Â Charlie Hustle always was looking out for his team and played the game as hard as he could every single play. Â Harper is just a dumb kid who has been told how awesome he was since little league when i would take Trout over him in a heartbeat. 1 Quote
Fishwhittler Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I don't think Harper has any heart....he has a big head and that's about it.  Charlie Hustle always was looking out for his team and played the game as hard as he could every single play.  Harper is just a dumb kid who has been told how awesome he was since little league when i would take Trout over him in a heartbeat.  I think you're being too hard on Harper.  He's a good player and will get better, and he's still a kid (says the guy who's only a couple months older ).  I think he plays hard, sometimes too hard.  He's also made some mistakes, such as banging his bat against the dugout wall. He's not as low-profile as Mike Trout, but he's not a complete jerk either.  Give him a break, and give him some time to mature.  According to Fangraphs, Harper's fielding was considerably better last year than it's been this year.  He's actually hitting at a better clip than he was in 2012.  Problem is he's missed games due to injuries—Trout has played in 110 games, Harper only 74. Harper's strikeouts are down 1.9%, walks are up 3.3%, ISO is 42 points higher, batting average is .003 less, OBP is up 21 points, and his slugging is 38 points higher than last year.  That's a fairly substantial improvement.  Give him credit where it's due.  BTW, according to Fangraphs, Mike Trout's fielding is also worse than it was last year.  Defensive metrics show Trout as having dropped off more than Harper. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 7, 2013 Super User Posted August 7, 2013 My thing on Harper is his attitude is bad and always has been bad since he was younger. Granted, the kid has had to deal with more media scrutiny and exposure than anyone since probably Griffey jr. but that doesn't excuse him from blowing a kiss to a pitcher after hitting a home run in the minors or throwing his temper tantrum in the dugout.  I totally agree he plays the game hard but that isn't always the best way to go in baseball, playing smart is always better. He ran into a wall what, twice and once in his home stadium, that shouldn't happen. He also makes bonehead plays on the basepaths pretty regularly as well.  He does have a cannon for an arm and i agree he can get better but there is no way he deserved to be the youngest all star in history last year when there were plenty of others who were having better seasons.  He did handle the Cole Hamels plunking him last year pretty well thoguh so i will give him credit for that one.  Will he be above average, probably but he is not going to be one of hte elite to ever step on the diamond unless he has a dramatic shift in attitude.
