Super User flyfisher Posted June 10, 2013 Super User Posted June 10, 2013 The reds are a puzzling team for sure and i have never liked Votto since he seems like a big crybaby  Ofcourse you could be a phillies fan like myself and be even more puzzled at how you can play so well and then get nearly swept i na 4 game series by the brewers, who by the way have the best logo in all of baseball in my humble opinion. 1 Quote

Are you referring to the current logo, or the old ball and glove logo? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 If they played the phillies every week they would win 120 games....and yes i am referring to the old logo, that thing is awesome. Â Not sure how often they use it but it seems like i see it pretty often. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 Old logo was sweet! I have to rank the O's bird that they have brought back up there and the blue cardinals and phillies jersey's were awesome too. I generally hate the 80's style, it was weird, the movies suck from that era, I was born in 81, but man oh man that would have had to be one of the best times in baseball. Brett, Ozzie, Ripken and Murray, Yount and Molitor, Gwynn, Sandberg, Schmidt and Boggs...Don't have players like that anymore, or cool logos and unis 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 I do like the phillies old baby blues not a fan of the cardinals though. The orioles is a good logo too but i still think the old brewers logo is one of the tops in all of sports.  I was born in 76 so i was still a little young to remember all the greats from the early 80's but i do remember seeing schmidt play quite a few times and lefty pitch once.  Being a basketball fan though i have been really lucky to see a ton of greats play...Dr J, Bird, olajuwan, drexler, shaq, jordan, lebron, james, kareem, barkley, Karl malone, Moses Malone.....etc  I was more into basketball once i got my driver's license and the sixers were more fun to wtch than the crappy baseball the phillies played from the mid 80's through their world series appearance in 93 (which i did go to the 15-14 world series game). 1 Quote

Coooop! Yeah I don't recall the 83 series except for my neighbor had 2 kittens and they got named Eddie Murray and Rick Dempsey. The one lived next door til I was 10 or 12. Reminded me every time I saw that cat of the O's Looks like cole threw another gem but only to lose 2-1. It has to wear on you that you do everything you can and your team can't put up 3 runs for you over and over again. Shoot he should have 8 or 9 wins by now if they could score. 1 Quote

llPa1nll Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Totally agree...kill Interleague, the DH, the absurd All Star Game home field advantage rule, and the Wild Cards, and you'll have a far better product. I do agree with some of your points, like killing Inter-league play and the silly all-star game rule for WS home field advantage. On the other hand however I think the DH should be added to the NL. Who really wants to see pitchers trying to bat? Not me. Make the strike zone a little bigger, which will force the hitters to swing, and force pitchers to pitch faster, a pitch every 20 seconds at least, +3hr games is incredibly way too long. Quote

That can make or break a game.....I cannot stand watching someone like hafner, edgar martinez was another good example, that is incapable of playing the field in the DH spot. I personally would rather see pitchers hit or them go to an 8 man batting order. but I think it is fine the way it is, DH in the AL/pitcher in the NL makes it unique. But deffinately get rid of interleague play hate this year, hated it last year, hated it when they started it. Quote

Actually, I think they already have a 12 second rule for pitchers when no runners are on base, however you never see it enforced. It surprises me how many people complain about games being too long, to me, 3hr is totally reasonable and that's right at the league average. Quote

Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call Ball. The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball. The intent of this rule is to avoid unnecessary delays. The umpire shall insist that the catcher return the ball promptly to the pitcher, and that the pitcher take his position on the rubber promptly. Obvious delay by the pitcher should instantly be penalized by the umpire.  Wow, I didnt know this. I never even heard of it. That needs to be enforced. The length of games is getting way too long in my opinion. When the Yankees and Red Sox get together, it last for upwards of 4hrs. I think that is just too long a time for a game to go on. When you take a look back, the length of games has increased, just need to speed the game up. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 12, 2013 Super User Posted June 12, 2013 I am also in the non DH boat myself. Â It puts the NL teams at a big disadvantage as they don't have the luxury of paying for a big bat that only hits all year instead of a guy who can actually play in the field. Â It also extends careers past when guys should be playing. Â Managers aren't a big part in baseball but in the AL it is even less as you never have to worry about pinch hitting and leaving a pitcher in so you can pinch hit and only lose on player instead of a reliever and a hitter. Â Let the manager actually manage instead of playing fantasy baseball..... Â I have seen the time enforced a few times but i think it was just warnings and it was yankees red sox which are notoriously slow. Â I do remember seeing umps not granting time to a batter a few times last season. Â As far as Hamels goes it is ridiculous lack of run support he gets. Â I think i heard that he has about 33 runs scored for him in his starts this year. Â He should be used to it though because last year was really the only year he had any type of offense when he was on the mound. Â I also hate interleague play and increasing the strike zone isn't really needed but calling what is the strike zone should be enforced. Â If i remember correctly a strike is supposed to be from the letters to the knees but you rarely if ever see a strike called above the belt. 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted June 19, 2013 Super User Posted June 19, 2013 I am obviously biased but does anyone else think the nationals broadcasters are some of the worst homers ever? I mean support your team but man, I have to put the tv on mute for a few innings just because I can't take it and the MLB package considers Richmond va to be local so I can't get the philly broadcast. Super User MCS Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 any of you all see the film knuckleball? It was on Netflix, pretty good. Chronicled 2011 season of  Wakefield and Dickey as well as their back story, it also had Hough, the Niekros and Bouton in it. Dickey and Wakefield seen like real decent stand up family guys, I will definitely be rooting to Dickey to turn it around up there in Toronto. You know the guy is missing his UCL in his elbow. Totally had to works his A$$ off to get to where he is at. A worth see for any baseball fan. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 I saw the advertisement for it but never watched it...i just may have to change that now. Â Dickey has been through a lot too on a personal level so i am glad to see him somewhat succeeding. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted June 25, 2013 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2013 How is everyone's fantasy team(s) doing? Mine is crap. A lot of the guys I drafted, and am still hanging onto, just aren't putting up the numbers I expected so far: Prado, Billy Butler, Bonifacio, Konerko, and even Verlander to an extent...though his K rate is good. Middlebrooks has been a bust, as has Doc.  What really rubs salt into the wound is guys I was targeting, but didn't get, are doing quite well. Matt Harvey comes to mind. My head to head I was in 1st the first 5 weeks, I have sunk to a new low, 7 just been getting out played or everyone slumps at the same time. Very close loses too. Though I cannot complain about who I drafted and the numbers they are putting up. Looks good on paper. except maybe Weiters he is not impressive for a fantasy value but love him as a catcher on my team in the real world.  My roto league is stacked, picked up Cole and Wheeler before anyone else, I am 20 plus points ahead, cannot complain there. Super User flyfisher Posted June 25, 2013 Super User Posted June 25, 2013 Yeah he is.  He always starts slow and picks it up later on but these blown saves are ridiculous. I know a guy can't be perfect but 4 out of 5 is pretty bad especially after he went on that little tirade after the a loss when he said people need to do their jobs and not make mistakes. Quote
