Black Bass Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I received some money and feel the bait monkey wispering in my ear. What Deep Diving Crankbaits do you/would you like to have in your bass kit? Quote
jdw174 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Definitely some Norman DD22's and 14's. Also some of the deeper running Rapalas. Quote
bassnleo Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 When you say deep, what depth do you want to hit? For some people deep may be 10 feet, others 20+ feet. I use Norman DD22's and Luhr Jensens Hot Lips for my deepest structure fishing. Both will generally hit 15-18 feet on a long cast and 10 lb test. If I'm shallower the DD14 or DLN gets the nod (10-12 feet). For 6-9 feet I use discontinued Rapala Fat Raps. Also going to experiment with Manns 20+ to see how deep I can get this bait, ice needs to melt first Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 When it comes to deep crankin' anything 10 plus foot Ive got to go with a Rapala, shallow crankin' go with a Manns. Quote
ben23 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Catching Concepts XDC3 or SB2 deep............ I also like the Lure Jehnsen Baby hot lips- it works well for me on the local reservoir, but I prefer wooden over plastic....so that is where Catching Concepts comes into play. I'm not sure if whittler makes any really deep divers.....but I just got some of his shallowere models and they are GREAT looking, I can't wait to fish them more~~~!!! Ben Quote

Avalonjohn44 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Bagley has a good Balsa B-III deep diver, goes to 16 feet supposedly. It always gets to the bottom of the ponds where I fish... Quote
larrybass Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I've caught a passle of fish over the years on the larger Shad Raps. I LOVE these lures! I work 'em fairly slow usually, so I can feel 'em tap bottom and stuff. Many strikes occur on the resumption of the retrieve, after a little pause, when feeling it bump bottom. Other times, I've trolled with it at a good clip and have nearly had the rod ripped from my hands more than once with this speed trollin' wizz bait! 8-) The other DD'er I like a lot is Mann's 20 and 30 Plus plugs. Not the long skinny ones either. I mean the shorter, fatter guys. They REALLY dig hard and deep without putting undue strain on me or my tackle. I usually fish these bad boys on 20 lb Clear (flouresent) Stren and you'd best be holding onto that pole real tight if you ever try these puppys out! ;D Happy Bassin' ! lb Quote
