Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 9, 2013 Super User Posted March 9, 2013 Man now I am racking my brain trying to remember everyone I have met over the years. lol Each time I read this I think of another one. Circa 1972, I was at Tigers stadium, Yankees were in town, sitting behind home plate with some friends Reggie Jackson was sitting next to me. He was playing ball with the A's at the time and they were getting ready to play a series with the Tigers. I won't say he became my best friend as he "mingled" with nearly every person in the section. He walked around with a fistful of money betting people on what the players or pitchers would be doing, like this guy is gonna pop up, or this one may get struck out, look out this player is due for a home run. Needless to say he cleaned up. I have never encountered a celebrity being more gregarious and having everyone instantly just really liking the guy, he was super. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 9, 2013 Super User Posted March 9, 2013 I have met many fishing pros and other "famous" people but the one I met last year was a classic. Mr. New Orleans. Frenchy Brouillette. The top wise guy in the Marcello Mafia family in New Orleans. With Frenchy was Dale Massina, one of the most notorious bank and jewelry store robbers of the 50s and 60s and Jay Stevens, a guy that could steal anything (and did) for the mob plus being an enforcer. Cars, motorcycles, boats, airplanes. You name it and Jay could steal it. Dale told me he was in finance while Jay said he was in the transportation business. Frenchy discussed the JFK murder and who did it and why. The Warren Commission and even Bill O'Rielly got it wrong. Frenchy knew all of the players and why JFK was knocked off. From Lee Harvey Oswald to Jack Ruby to the sexual deviant David Ferry and the homosexual Jim Garrision, Frenchy knew them all. Frenchy also knew three other Mafia Godfathers and his stories were so funny that we were laughing the entire time. And to top it off Edwin "The Silver Fox" Edwards, a past governor of Louisiana, is Frenchy's cousin. And Edwin just married a beautiful young lady after he was released from federal prision. Go Edwin!!! You can read about the JFK murder and Frenchy's life in the French Quarter in his book, Mr. New Orleans. What was really wild and cazy that many of the places me and my friends went to in the French Quarter while growing up in New Orleans were run by the Mafia. My best friend, who was a Coke products delivery guy during the summer months while at LSU, actually knew and spoke with the Mafia guys and leaders at their resturants. Ronnie said they were very nice people and treated him well. My cousin, who was Carols Marcello's grandson's best friend, got rich by picking up the drugs in the Gulf for the Mafia until he got caught by the feds. Frankie never did rat out the Mafia and in return he got partial ownership in one of the mob's bars in uptown NOLA when he was released. After he was almost killed by his "partner" when the mob decided they had paid him back and wanted him out of the club, Carol's family stepped in and set him up as a fishing guide in Louisiana. By the way, Frenchy told me the Mafia hit the wrong guy. They should have knocked off Bobby and not Jack. Just thought I would let you guys know about my meeting with Frenchy. There is more to tell but this is a family site and you guys would not believe my stories growing up in New Orleans and the French Quarter and Frenchy's tales are so funny that they have to be true. No one could make up that stuff. For all of you old Louisiana guys, do you remember "The Gate" in Opelousas? That's all folks!!!! 1 Quote
