How many of yall use these? What is your favorite size and color? Favorite time to fish them? Rigging- weightless or with a swimbait hook?

 

Never really paid any attention to them until I saw an underwater vid on Youtube. They have some incredible action!

I love the original ones and had great success with them in the big size which I think is 4 inch or so.  I hooked into a monster on one last season that broke off on some cover no more than about 30 ft in front of me.  I was devastated!  I've never felt a tug like that one since.

 

I've fished them weightless and with a swimbait hook.  Either way they catch fish.

 

So basically I love fishing them and now they've got the boot tail which I think is going to be even better and I will be picking up several packs.

 

As for color, I bought the green pumpkin.  I see the boot tails have some different colors.  I'm planning on picking up white in both tails and green pumpkin and magic shad in whichever tails they come in.  I'll also be getting both sizes.

When I first bought these, I got the pre-rigged ones from Walmart. They were basically just rigged on a large jighead.  They worked so well that way, that's how I usually fish them now.  Sometimes I put them on a swarmin' hornet head, sometimes weightless.

They actually come in 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, & 8 inch sizes. I have had the best luck with the white color in the 3.5 inch size.  I fish them on a 1/4 ounce ball jighead with the hook exposed.

My best luck has come from using the 3.5 inch in the Magic Shad color.

I rig them on a Gamakatsu keel weighted hook, 3/0 with a 1/16 weight on the hook. The screw lock keeper also keeps them from tearing up on you so fast.

After you tear the nose up, you can use them for chatterbait/spinnerbait trailers, or even yet, remove the skirts from a spinner/chatter/buzzbait completely and throw them that way!

Or wacky rig them through the body... it's killer! Lots of tail action on the fall.

I've use the 3.5" and the 4.5" as trailers. I've had really good luck with the 4.5" on a skirtless chatterbait head. I like the watermelon pearl.

I've used them rigged on a ball jighead, Swormin Hornet, keel weighted, weightless, and even on a shakey head. There doesn't seem to be a way to rig these that they won't catch fish. Amazing action! I use the 4.5 and 3.5 only.  I like the Barfish and Magic Shad Colors most. Color really depends on water clarity, and what forage fish is primary.

BTW.....the Baby version is killer for drop fishing boat docks for crappie.
