Got back from BPS today, and walked out with ANOTHER Revo S and ANOTHER Veritas. I had a trade in coupon for the rod, and was handed a rebate card for $25 by the Abu rep that was there today. You have to buy both a rod and reel at the same time to get the rebate. Great deal for anyone still on the fence, especially with the rod trade in program right now.

Booooo! There was a Shimano rep there today who was incredibly nice. We talked a ton about rods and reels, and he admitted that Abu is kicking their butt. He asked to see my Veritas and even he thought it was darn good rod. He said the closest to a Veritas would be a Compre, but he said he knew I was an Abu guy and wasn't gonna try to sell me on one lol. Good people today.

I don't totally agree with him on that. The Veritas is a great rod. Fantastic rod and Abu has the market covered on 100 dollar rods IMO. However their quality control flat out sucks.

I was trying to find a decent 7' Winch on Friday to make my top water rod. 7 total rods I looked at. All same models and all same length and power. All 7 had something wrong with them. I would say that's its Bass Pro and their customers doing it, but more and more I hear of the same coming from all over. I know Abu/Pure fishing will take care if them, but it kinda sucks. Again the Veritas, when perfect, rocks out like a kegger and strippers.

I agree with him on the Sellus rods. They are over priced at 50-60 but they are still a good rod. The Clarus (which I ended up getting) was very very nice. Balanced well with my Revo S and looks great. Life time warranty too.

If Abu could some how get the guide issue under control, they could easily charge 140-160 for the Veritas and it would sell. Abu will come out with a newer model in a couple of years, and hopefully all the bugs are worked out.

As for the Verdict, the designers need to be slapped. I've never felt a more un balanced rod in my life. That retracting handle messing up accounts for 99% of the negative reviews.

So far I'm on my 2nd Shimano rod and I'm very happy. Their QC seems much better in store.

Last year I picked up a veritas at the spring classic. The guides were misaligned pretty bad. There was a stranger kind of bs' ing with me a little later on asking me what I planned on getting (i was leaning towards a carbonlite) when I asked him the same he started to tell me about the veritas rods. He walked over picked up the same rod I put down and started going towards the cash register. Yes I did stop him. I am guilty now of going away from shimano reel wise, the last four times. Abu has been making really nice reels as of late but I don' t think they have the rod thing figured out.

I couldn't believe I found a good Veritas on the rack yesterday. It must have been freshly stocked, because the other 2 I looked at were messed up. One had the clear coat peeling off in a spot and the other one had a collar that looked like it had been raked against the concrete. I actually found my 7" M mixed in with the 6"9 rods. BPS needs to just have one rod out on the floor of each model, and keep the stock in the back so we can actually get rods that aren't scraped up or beaten to death. The guide issue when it comes to alignment is totally on Abu though.

It is amazing what people do to rods at the big box stores. I usually ask if they have any outback and choose one from that stock instead of what is on the shelf. If your at a Walmart or Dicks where they don't usually keep back stock, then you have to really check over the one you are going to buy.

Abu has awesome customer service so I really don't worry if I happen to get a lemon. I know they will make it right, and I usually end up gaining something out of the deal.

I also realize that for every person on the internet complaining about a product, there are 10 people who are happy and never say a word. And like someone said above, they could sell these rods for $50 more. But that is not the marketing model they are working on. They know they are going to get a number of defects from a mass produced part. They have chosen to make them very affordable(relative for each person) and back them with great customer service. It must be working, trails around here are loaded with guys with these rods. I have friends who absolutely love the Veritas and have had no problems. I am a St Croix guy, but have 3 days left to decide if my rod trade in will be on a Veritas or Carbonlite to try something different this time around.
