I posted a couple threads recently about a johnboat that I re did. 10 foot aluminum with a trolling motor. I mounted two seats with 9 inch extensions and swivels. One on the rear bench and one on the very front. I left the center bench empty for room for supply and gear. Many people have mentioned that the front seat looks "unsafe". However I have had two people in the boat with both seats and no problems. I personally have been solo in the boat and sat in both locations with no problems. Windy and calm breeze days, turns, hook sets in both seats, all fine. What would be the issues that all of these people are talking about? The boat flipping over from the front end? Poor balance? It is level now and floats well. I have also seen other John boats, some 10' and some 14' and the owners had the seats like mine. One guy said it is more stable this way. Another said personal preference. It works for me and I enjoy it.

It might look tipsy to people who haven't been in it an seen for themselves that it's fine on the water. You can't argue with results, if it works then its obviously safe.

I guess it depends on your weight, too. If you're 5'8" and 175 pounds then it might be fine for you. I'm 6'3" and 280 pounds. That makes a difference.

I am 6 foot and 185. My friend is 5 foot 6 and weighs 210. It works fine with us. My wife when she goes is 5 foot 3 and weighs 110. She can sit wherever it don't matter. She's usually ready to go home if it gets too hot or cold. Lol
