Which do you prefer when ordering rods and reel online? In my experience, UPS is much better, but that could be a regional thing. I only ask because I feel that my last reel I ordered may have been damaged in transit with FedEx. So I got a new one and it is being shipped with UPS this time. It is supposed to arrive in a couple hours, so that will probably be the deciding factor of who I will use in the future.

I have used UPS more than FedEx, I saw a video of a FedEx worker throwing a Flat-screen TV in a package over a fence and he just walked away. I have heard they "hide" the packages they deliver from thieves. And people didn't know they were say, behind a bush and their packages got wet and what they got inside was ruined. So yeah I have heard some stories, so just to be careful I'm staying with UPS.

Funny because if you YouTube this you will see that both have their idiot delivery guys.  I would suspect both are generally responsible with their packages and have their bad seeds.

First vid is a stupid UPS guy.  The second is the vid BenBassmaster is referring to.

Have seen both of those clips on the news when they first surfaced--having said that I have had nothing but great results with both FedEx and ups---usps has scared me pretty good a couple times--bought a rod and seller shipped it usps---when i came home it was on the porch and it was crunched in the middle so bad it just flopped when I picked it up---was positive that I now had a 2 piece rod--could not believe when i cut the rest of the tube off and rod was ok :surprised: --To the credit of the post man I was home next day and he rang doorbell to check on status of rod---he could not believe it was ok himself--he was ready to start a claim for me

Used to work for UPS as an unloader. Was tough work, especially the the loading goons from whatever state the truck came from think putting dumbbells on the top tier of boxes was a funny idea. My head didn't agree.

That said, I've used both, no problems with either than I can recall. Rods, reels, line, everything has arrived unbroken so far.

Both my wife and I are avid on line shoppers (abusers) - so USPS, UPS and FedEx are routine visitors to our residence.

EVERY time I'm home when anyone delivers, I make it a point to go out, introduce myself, get the individuals name, shake their hand, I introduce them to all my dogs (they can hear them anyway)  and thank them for whatever.  It doesn't matter.

I know them all by name, and they know mine, they all leave treats for the dogs. Granted I live in a place where each driver has a the same route and this makes it easier to keep track but these people are just doing their job.

If something is smashed during shipping, there is nothing the driver can do about it.  But I seriously doubt that any of the people delivering to my home would hook me up like the freaks in the videos posted above.  And I feel that way because I make an effort not to provide them with a reason to do so.

It's actually pretty easy to treat people the same way you want to be treated.

I do the same thing for deliveries, A-Jay. Deliveries can be a tough job and having friendly folks along the way can brighten someone's day.

My personal experience was inside the major hub in Dallas back in the early 90s. Sometimes damage is done in transit as loads settle, sometimes the loader loads the truck incorrectly. Hey, people are involved, so anything can happen when the supervisor is/isn't looking. The stuff you see in the loading/unloading hubs is crazy.

HAHAHA glad you posted this. Within the last week this has happened so far. Fedex lost a 98 inch rod tube carrying 3 fishing rods in a 15ft van. Driver remembers seeing the rod tube but doesnt recall where it went or if he even delivered it. Then about a week passes, i return home from work and see a rod tube at my door. Apparently they located the package and delivered it to the right address. However, it looks like they decided to runover about 3 ft of the rod tube damaging all 3 rods. I have another 6 rods coming on sat lets see if they come and make it all in one piece.

Also i understand everyone makes mistakes, we are all human. But when your only job is to safely load, unload and deliver packages to the proper addresses is not that hard if you truly think about it. When you make mulitple errors on a job that only requires a few steps to do right, there is something wrong there. People pay good money to ship a package and expect it to get to the proper address without any damage. Its not asking to much, we are only asking you do your job right.

quite frankly out of all of the i rate them usps, ups then fedex. again these are my experiences with these shipping companies.

6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. I used to work at a FedEx facility a long time ago. Secondly I have friends that are drivers for both companies and also loaders/unloaders for both. People don't know what's in the boxes and they get stacked up no matter what when being put on the truck so the first boxes to be delivered are right there at the drivers reach. Also when unloading the semi trailer they get pushed down rollers to their respective areas and then stacked in a wheeled box type thing. Then taken to the trucks and loaded up. I like that FedEx delivers on Saturdays and typically I always get my order a day early. I like ups though too because I know the driver and he will drop my orders off here at work so that's a plus because I don't have to wait till 7pm when I get home.

You hit the nail on the head, I do the same and can assure you either driver would go out of their way to take care of me. To many people think they are their employees and treat them like less than they would want to be treated themselves, then wonder why some people get taken care of above and beyond. I use both and thank them for the service they so professionally "deliver"!! pun definitely intended!!

With the exception of deliveries that I need to sign for, which I prefer, by the time I get to the door after the bell is rung, they are in their truck and gone.  Don't really recall any problems with fed/ex, ups or usps due to breakage.
