PABASS Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I had a guided trout fly fishing fishing excursion last year and both Guides told us to use orange lenses, bought a pair and now I use it for all my fishing, rivers lakes and creeks.. These really can cut into the water have helped me see a ton more fish.. Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 I have the amber lenses in my costas, they are good all around lenses. Great for clear to tea colored water with clay or light brown sediments. 2 Quote

PABASS Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 LOL, thought the same thing. Amber lenses for me. Same thing, everyone around here calls it a crik, except me, but I wasn't born in PA and my parents are not from PA so I grew up with creek.. Quote

gall Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 being from pittsburgh thats what we always called it people around here call it creek and look at me like im slow when im saying it but i might buy another pair of sunglasses cause lenses for the oakleys are easy $60+ i mean i like the looks of the strike king s11 glasses since the price tag is less then a pair of replacement lenses for the oakleys Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Save the money, buy Costa glass and don't worry about scratches. 2 Quote

Oakley makes some nice glasses, buddy in the National Guard loves the ones he got through them. I'm referring to your next pair. I will repeat something that can't be repeated enough: You only get one set of eyeballs, treat them with care. In this instance, that would be purchasing the highest quality pair of glasses you can. Super User flyfisher Posted March 2, 2013 Super User Posted March 2, 2013 I will second or third the costa glass suggestion. I also prefer a copper or rose copper lens color. I have the mirrored green costas now and love them. You also have to remember that you will or should wear sunglasses all the time for uv protection regardless of if you are fishing Quote

The 580g is a phenomenal lens and I'm super happy I spent the money on mine. eBay is the way to go for Costas, IMHO. Got my legit 580g green mirrors for far less than retail. Quote
elkriverangler Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 gall, If You decide to stick with the Oakley's you can get a Pair of Visionary Lenses off ebay for the Straight Jackets. They go for around $20. They aren't Oakley Lenses but they are still a good Lens for the Price. I have a Pair of Gray ones in my everyday Oakley Half Jackets and I like then real well. For Fishing though I wear a Pair of Costa Fathoms 580 P with Copper lens. I really like the Copper Lens for Fishing Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 2, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2013 I have the Costa 580 in Amber also. There was a thread not too long ago where it seemed the concesess was that the Blue or Green mirror is better. If I were you I'd try them both on outside the store you're buying them from on both cloudy and sunshine days to see which you prefer glare wise. It won't be the same as on a boat in the middle of a lake trying to see the bottom, but it cant hurt either. At least you'll have a better idea than standing in the aisle of store looking at a kid behind the counter that youre gonna give 200.00 too. Mike Quote
gall Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 my plain before the oakleys was to get costa cause i love them but my friend found them busing tables and i mean 190 frames i couldnt pass them up they do a great job but i just want another pair of lenses little better for sight fishing and not super bright conditions Quote

Mike The Blue and Green mirrored Costas have an Amber base. The only thing mirroring does is block more light. Ideal for open water/blue water fishing in bright sun; not as good for sight fishing. The green mirror and silver mirror are only available in copper base or amber. The mirror lense are intended for sight fishing. Here is a link to costas sight that gives you a rundown of lenses. https://www.costadelmar.com/perform/color Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2013 Super User Posted March 4, 2013 My mistake, thanks for the link. Quote
gall Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 i went to the visionary lenses website and i gotta say i can get 2 for the price of one actual oakley lenses i might purchase a few types from there i had a pair of bps sunglasses and i felt the mirrored green actually cut into the water more maybe it was just me Quote
gall Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 but has anyone used the visionary lenses yet? are they truly mirrored or polarized as stated? Quote
elkriverangler Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 gall, I mentioned in my previous post that I have a Pair of the Visionary Lenses in my Oakley Half Jackets. I have the Slate gray Color. They don't seem to be mirrored to me but they are definitely Polarized. I had the Factory Oakleys in them but they got scratched and I didn't want to pay the price for Oakley replacements so I went with the Visionary Lenses. I am very pleased with them for the Price. Quote
gall Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 ok because i saw the one pair was mirrored green and i feel the mirrored i get better vision but i just emailed them and got a response and she said if there are any problems no hassle return so i might invest in a few pairs Quote
