jhoffman Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Open up google earth and mark waypoints you wish to put into your fish finder/gps. When you are done marking Click File -> Save as Name the file something you will remember in a location you can find. Use the KML File extension Open a browser and navigate to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/ Set the input file as google earth Set the output file as lowrance Click the browse button and attach your kml file that you saved from google earth Click convert Look for the link to the file, this file will be named the same thing you named it in google earth. The difference is that it will have a .usr file extension. Download the file and save to your computer. Put the file onto a micro SD card Plug micro SD into the lowrance Import waypoints from card Enjoy your pre mapped spots! Quote
jhoffman Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Note that you can also go the other direction and take the file on the card off your boat, change it to a kml file and open it in google earth Quote
jhoffman Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 One more little trick download this file once you have google earth installed http://www.gelib.com/maps/_NL/usgs-topographic-maps.kml Then open the file with google earth Now, right click the USGS folder thats in Temporary places, cut it, paste it into the my places folder. Turning this layer on and off will show all the USGS water stations and their current information with links to see historical data The other way to do this is add it directly to your my places. Right Click My Places -> Add Network LInk -> In the name I put RiverWatch and in Link i put the following, copy the whole thing including http:// to the clipboard and paste it in. Shortcuts for copy = ctrl + c and to paste it = ctrl+p http://water.usgs.gov/waterwatch/?m=real&w=kml®ions=all Click ok, turn the layer on if its off and BOOM Quote
