mike bat Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hey guys just picked up a pair of oakley angling spec shades .. wow .. thats all i can say .. I dont wanna go to deep into the reasons why you should protect your irreplaceable eyes .. there are 3 main reasons you should have a good pair of polar shades .. 1) they reduce eyestrain ,, if your on the water for long periods of time you must protect your eyes .. 2) keep hooks away from your naked eyes , self explanatory 3) filter out damaging rays from the sun .. so you can see the main reasons you need to protect you vision and eyes ...the rest of the benefits are just bonus .. here is a review of my oakleys i know its not the greatest review ( its my 1st review ) .. but i couldent find any info on these glasses ( so i guess i had to do a lil review ) just to try and help out .. again this is my 1st video edit / review / youtube vid .. so go easy on me LOL .. check em out they are really nice ... 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Does anyone else have these glasses? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Does anyone else have these glasses? Nope. Unfamiliar with 'em. Costa man myself. Agree with your reasons to wear eyeglasses, mike! Quote
Quitlimpin Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I don't have the angling specific Oakley's, but I've been wearing the polarized Flak Jacket XLJ's for years. They are fantastic both on and off the water. I haven't ever had a reason to try any other brands, so I don't have anything to compare them to. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 I've had polarized perscription sun glasses for years. Wouldn't be without them, when ever I go outside, even on the cloudiest, grey day. When I'm running by boat at any speed at all, I'm wearing goggles over my prescription shades. I don't want to find out how my sun glasses stand up to june bug at 20+ MPH. That is what goggles are for. Quote
mike bat Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 this really is just more of an awareness post ,, we have some noobies on the forums every year .. so every couple years i like to pull this up as a reminder to some who may not be protecting their eyes .. also I've been looking into the Oakley angling series of sunglasses aside from basic pic and info on their webpage i really couldn't find much info on them .. so i wanted to do a lil review just to help out anyone who may have been thinking of these and just couldn't find enough info to pull the trigger .. That being said no i wouldent wanna take a junebug to the lense LOL ,, but better that than a black eye .. Quote
JeziHogg Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I got a pair of Polarized Flak Jacket XLJ's, best sunglasses I've ever owned Quote
TNBassin' Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I've got polarized oakley batwolf glasses. Best pair of oakleys I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of oakleys. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Polarized Half Jacket XLJ's with both the blue mirror and the bronze iridium lenses. Been using them for 4 years now and love them. Paired up with a set of CABLZ to keep them from falling overboard. Quote
mike bat Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 good stuff guys .. i really think oakleys are looked over when it comes to fishing glasses ... But I've been using them for over 7 years now and really cant say enough about them .. the other shades i have used in the past were the smith action optics ,, they are really nice too .. offer really good polarization and mainly are made for skiers and snowboarders but they work really nice on the water too .. Costas are a good option too ,, i have no experience with them .. But i hear good things about them .. so there are some really good options out there .. Quote
Busy Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I am on the Oakley bandwagon. I have a pair of Oakley Crosslinks with bronze polarized lenses. I went round and round between Oakley, my eye doctor, and their custom lense maker before getting these. Most Oakley frames do not support a very strong prescription. I kept getting lists of frame options that were available to me only to find out they couldn't make them. I have been very pleased with the Crosslinks. I got them in Satin Rootbeer/Team Orange. http://www.oakley.com/products/6995/26347 Beware oakley prescription sunglasses, polarized, with AR coating and everything will cost you an arm and a leg but I think this is a good option for people who can't stand contacts. Super User 00 mod Posted March 2, 2013 Super User Posted March 2, 2013 I have had over 10 different pairs of Oakley's before making the switch to Costa's. 2 years in and I haven't picked up any other pair I own. Still have 2 of them laying around. That being said, if protection is what you are looking for, I only use HiDefSpex for my target shooting! Jeff Quote
mike bat Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Hey guys the video in this post really sucked ,, so i made a better one of the same glasses /// ill be switching them out today sometime just a heads up .. sorry for the poor vid .. Quote
fishingman88 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I've always read that Okaley optics were terrible, but I must be mistaken. I've only tried on the polarized Oakleys at the mall sunglass shops and compared them to Maui Jims/Costas/Wiley X/etc. and it always seem to be the worst out of them. I'm curious as to whether Oakely uses different materials in their "angling" designed specs. I personally love my Wiley X and Kaenon (my favorite by far). Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Oakley Polarized Gascans here Quote
Smiths.R Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I have a pair of fishing specific half jackets from Oakley. They are amazing. I got them a few years ago, and boy does it make fishing during the Spring more fun. I think a lot of people w/o polarized shades would be shocked at how many fish are five feet away from them as they walk the bank. Quote

Jig Meister Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I did not see the important information of: How much are these? Price dictates my eye wear at the moment. Quote

BassThumb Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Quality sunglasses are always impressive the first time you give them a shot. They're a worthwhile investment for an angler, no doubt. Apart from protecting your priceless eyes from flying projectiles, they also reduced eye-strain and help you to relax. Quote
