Super User retiredbosn Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 We have several computers in the home, using one router. I set static ip's on 3 computers to prevent internet conflicts. I was using my computer lost internet, I went into dos typed ipconfig, and my computer's static ip number changed drastically, I went from a 192. 1xx.1.x to 169.254.477.141 I intentionally put the x's on mine, so was I hacked? . Advice please, I disconnected the router completely, and am running a virus scan now. Quote

The area for the other ip was overseas I think. Advice please, I disconnected the router completely, and am running a virus scan now. Not necessarily. A 169. address usually means you're not connected. As you're experiencing. Are you wired or wireless? If wireless, try connecting wired and see if that resolves. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted March 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2013 My eldest son has his wireless bridged into our router instead of doing a proper connection. I think after reconfiguring his connection the problem will resolve. Right now I turned mine off and will do the reconfiguring tomorrow. We are all wireless. Quote
