Super User Sam Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 If this guy is correct, the east coast could be hit with another snow storm. Here is his prediction: *** 0Z THURS EURO MODEL BOMBS VA and western NC with HISTORIC MARCH SNOWSTORM...MARCH 6...this is the 8th in a row the European has showed this AND the 4th run in row that the Euro has showed a MAJOR system hitting KY lower WVA western and NW NC and much of VA. And the Dogwoods are getting close to budding. This storm will probably push them back by a week. Quote

Super User Sam Posted February 28, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2013 Here is Dave Tolleris's at wx.risk.com's latest and greatest prediction: European Model (and others) Still Show A Major NC/VA, West VA/MD/NJ Snowstorm next Tuesday evening through Thursday. The models send a strong upper low into th...e TN/NC region and merge it with northern Stream energy thanks to Canada blocking. If the models are right, a major snowstorm is coming to much of Mid Atlantic States from NC north through all of Virginia and West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and much of New Jersey. The track isn't certain...it could push a little more south (GFS ) or even a little more north if the Block isn't that strong. The time frame is Tuesday evening then strengthening on Wednesday and into Thursday as the storm bombs out over eastern NC and off the DelMarva.Full update at www.wxsouth.com and details (register then click on upper right corner on "public") Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2013 *** ALERT ** MASSIVE SHIFT BY THE 0Z EUROPEAN MODEL BRING THE LOW on MARCH 6-7 ...500+ MILES FURTHER NORTH FROM 12 HOURS AGO ... HAS HEAVY SNOW OVER DCA BWI Northern VA .... central and western MD eastern ahlf of PA ... yes Philly... all of NJ NYC LONG ISLAND CT and southern half of New EnglandGeee is there any reason to be skepitcal of this massive of shift in 1 run?Think about it... 12 hours ago EVERYONE was yelling at me that the 12z Thursday Euro had come SOUTH with the March 6 Low ...like the GFS ... 12 hrs later the euro comes north by 500 miles ... The Euro's projections have always been much more accurate than the American model. Since local weathermen use the American model their forecasts have not been on target until a day or two out from the storm's arrival. If the storm moves north then Virigina and the Carolinas may be spared the full brunt and have a lower amount of snow. Time will tell. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Boo ... Hiss! I was just thinking that spring was in the air. The calm before the storm I guess. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Accuweather started posting info on the potential for this storm but the forecasted temps are in the 40's, hard to get a lot of snow at those temps. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Brian, check out the latest and remember that this forecaster is usually on target as opposed to the NWS and local weathermen: **** ALERT ** ALERT ... Super User Sam Posted March 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 2, 2013 Root Beer, we close down in Richmond for three inches of snow. Alabama closes down for one inch of snow!!! We don't have the equipment to remove it from the roads like they have up north. Here is the latest early Saturday morning. Zoff, Gaston may still be a go in the snow. I had my best day ever in the snow and ice on Lake Gaston a few years ago. *** ALERT ** ALERT ** 0Z SATURDAY EUROPEAN MODEL .. ANOTHER BIG HIT FOR VA and MD... The Model STALLS the Low over far eastern NC... very very SIMILAR TO the 0z British and 0z Canadian model which also stall the Low over eastern NCWHAT DOES THIS MEAN ??the early SAT AM European Model shows HUGE snow amounts for ALL of the western Half of VA......Roanoke gets crushed ...as does all of sw va.. the entrie SHENANDOAH VALLEY.. ALL of the piedmont from Danville to Culpeper ( yes this mean Lynchburg C' ville as well)and Moderate snow into DCA METRO... up to BWI...SE VA is all rain... RICHMOND METRO on the border..... r/s mix goes over to heavy snow. And the euro again shows the Low gets BLOCKED and does NOT come up the coast.See More Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 3, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 3, 2013 0200EST from wx.risk.com. Seems the American model is changing from rain to snow for some unknown reason. At least it parallels the European and Canadian models. East coast seems to be in an area where we will be getting a lot of snow. Richmond could get up to 10 inches! *** ALERT *** 0Z SUNDAY EARLY MORNING run of the EUROPEAN MODEL ... OFFERS NO CHANGES ***DROPS 12 to 18" of HEAVY WET SNOW over entire western Third of VA.... from RONAOKE up the ENTIRE Shenandoah valley.. all of it... up to Harrisonburg... with SMALL area of 18-24" near Charlottesvillle ! This is VERY close to the 0Z GFS .then around that area is 8-12" over eastern THIRD of WVA into WYTHEVILLE and Martinville Danville to FARMVILLE / Crewe to Lake ANNA to Fredericksburg to Manassas to Winchester / Martinsburg to western MDand 4 to 8" from Northwest NC/ Boone to Hickory to Greensboro to Richmond to Tappahannock to DCA to Hagerstown to Pittsburg PA Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 What are you guys expecting now? It appears it's going to stall over VA & NC and the rain is supposed to come up the coast and get us either wet or heavy snow depending on how the it shifts. Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Well as of last night various sources were predicting anywhere from 1-10 inches. We ended up with 2 inches. It all hinged on a couple of degrees. If it would have been just a little cooler we would have been slammed. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 9 +" in my yard now. Still snowing. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 I live in mechanicsville (NE of richmond) and it was all rain and a little freezing rain mixed in. As i drove to work, you could clearly see the line of ice to snow as i was driving on 295 and passed 95 it changed and now out here in the west end of richmond it is really coming down. I am guessing there are 3-4" out there already. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted March 7, 2013 Super User Posted March 7, 2013 All I got was a lot of wind and a little rain. TV and radio was talking about 'Snow-mageddon' and what not. Not that Im dissapointed. The only way I like snow is when we get a couple feet and I can go out and wrestle with my dog in it. A couple inches is just enough to mess the roads up and get on your nerves. Quote

Man, just saw you guys forecast....Sunny Florida is looking better and better eh? It was 39 here this morning, next week the lowest projected temp is 50 spring is here!!! errr on its way!!!
