Super User rockchalk06 Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 All I can really say is wow! I finally got the chance to try these out today. 3rd cast and I had a little dink smash it hard. I ended up catching a tree, followed up by 20 minutes of dangling and retrieved the jig, only to have a break off next cast and watch it sail off into the middle of the pond. I used a Strike King river bug in green pumpkin and the jig was the copper craw. They matched up perfectly! The bottom of the river was very grassy so I swam the jig like a swim jig and did well. The action of the hair was amazing. Typical great North Star quality. Thanks Chris. I just placed an order for more a few minutes ago. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I agree. I really like his hair jigs too. I usually pair them with a Rage Chunk. Quote
mnbassman23 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Gotta love the NSCB hair jig. I fish them all year, but when the going gets tough it really shines. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted March 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2013 The copper craw worked really well for me. I decided to buy 5 more and just use them. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 i was gonna make a thread asking who uses hair jigs. I used one for the first time last year night fishing. I was wearing them out! It was awesome. I gotta go out and get more. Lost the one on a rocky bank. Quote

It's funny I never throw an all black regular jig (I'm a big Alimony guy though), but for hair jigs it's probably my hands down favorite lol. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted March 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 1, 2013 I've got a few Alimony blacks and knock outs. I have yet to try them. I kinda went hog wild buying jigs and only ended up using only my black series Insanities, KO froggers and salsa & mistake flip n swims lol Quote
River Rat316 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 All black hair jig is all I need also, in either the hairy craw hybrid type, or a regular hair jig, I only really carry two colors, all black or green Pumpkin Blue, they cover everything for me in a hair jig. 1 Quote
HookSetDon Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Is it the consensus to fish a hair craw by itself or with a trailer Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 I fish alot of Football jigs in the winter and in deep water late in the summer. I saw the video on the website and i def wana try the 3/4 oz sizes for deep ledges and such. I also want to try them for some boat docks that seem to hold fish year round..im thinking 3/8 Quote
River Rat316 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 This vid will give you an idea, but I always fish them with a trailer, the vid shows exactly how I rig mine, Thanks Nick and Brandon for shooting this in the extreme cold, I was to big of a wuss to go out and help....lol 1 Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I had to amputate a few fingers after this shoot, so I hope you like it Aaron! hah. Quote
MSAJAA Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I might have missed it, What was the weight of your jig? What line size were you using? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 We were throwing 3/8 & 1/2 oz depending on the wind. I generally throw hair jigs on 8-10 lb Seaguar flouro Quote
MSAJAA Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Do you break off alot of jigs? That is alot of weight for 8-10 pound line. Throwing spinning gear instead of casting due to cold temps? Quote
River Rat316 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 The hair jigs have a light wire hook and a very light weedguard, that is the reason for the spinning gear, you can fish them on baitcast to, but they are not meant for your traditional jig gear, I have a bait caster I throw them with, it is a 7'6" medium fast action, and I use 10lb Floro on it and have no problems with breakoffs, I usually fish 2 or 3 outings on 1 jig before the river gods claim it. You too? Lol. I am lucky to survive 1 outing with a jig. Hence why I have to buy so many. I am notorious for finding the nastiest hole and pitching a jig in it. Quote

No, I just tie a good palamar knot. Yes, I throw with spinning gear because the spool and line guide on a casting reel freeze up every cast...Made the mistake of driving an hour up to the river and only brought one casting hah. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 4, 2013 Super User Posted March 4, 2013 I jumped on board when the Hairy Jig was first introduced...KILLER! Quote
Gangley Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Yeah, the hair jig works well, very well. As usual, quality components give you quality results. Also, if your losing atleast one jig a trip, then your most likely fishing in the right places. I will generally lose one jig every 2-3 hours at a new spot, but once I have that spot dialed in and I know what cover is there, I may go a week without losing one. Fear not, once you get the structure in that location dialed in and can tell exactly what part of the structure your jig is coming through and what will be coming up next, you'll be amazed at what you can drag that jig through successfully. 1 Quote
