Well, guess the Bills will definitely be getting a QB in the draft as ESPN is saying Alex Smith goes to Andy Reid and the Chiefs...

Good for him and KC fans.

Here's the report:

Just got the alert on my phone....he is an Andy reid type of QB and even though, as an eagles fan, i was sad to see the Walrus move on i know it was time and i would bet the chiefs challenge for the division if not win it next year.

The Walrus!! Man, I've not heard Reid called that before, hilarious!

No doubt KC is better with Smith and the QB master at the helm. They should be tough next season.

Now KC just could add some recieving weapons and some linemen to keep him upright.

Alex smith isnt a bad QB it just took him a while...Glad to see KC make a move on a QB before the draft. This move tho, solidifies that there arent any QBs worthy on top ten in the draft. This also lets them grab one of those big linemen with the top pick instead of reaching on a QB

If someone picks Landry Jones at all will be setting themselves up for and epic FAIL!

True. KC should be good with the #1 draft. Can't imagine they gave that up for Smith. Terms won't be disclosed until 12 March, tho.

I'm just hoping the Bills grab the best player available at #8. Scared they may reach for Geno Smith or someone that has great talent, but may not be able to play in the swirling tundra of Buffalo. Rather see Buffalo grab Cordarelle Patterson and give Stevie J some breathing room on the other side of the field.

Adam Schefter just tweeted this:

Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year - the top pick in second round - as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

Kansas City will trade its second-round pick in the 2013 draft -- the second selection (No. 34 overall) in the round -- as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014 to acquire Smith from San Francisco, a league source told ESPN.

What!! Thats crazy. I wouldnt have done that!! They probably could have gotten Flynn for a 3rd or a 4th. A Smith is a good quarter back, but they have too many needs...he isnt that good that they can surpass other needs and give a 2

Don't worry Darren the Bills might have a shot at the super ultra elite and now world champion Joe Flacco. The sun reports from a source close to the talks that they are "amicable" but a long way from a deal.

Joey the Flacco! I heard they were interested a while back, but it was just "interest" and not even close to likely. Which...would align to your second sentence.

Off to Google to look it up....

Well Baltimore has until Monday to tag him. But they are stuck with a bad cap situation. So game of PR cat and mouse. Joes says he is aware and wants to stay so Baltimore is pretty much like well do it then.

I dont think Smith is that great. Lets not forget he was among the worst QB's in football for nearly 5 years. SF had an all time great line in front of him, a strong running game, and a beast defense. He's a game manager who can move a little, but when you need him to step up and make a big throw he just doesn't have any arm at all.

KC does have some talent. (Dwayne Bowe, jamal Charles, tambi Hali, eric berry, brandon flowers, etc.). If Reid can get them better on both sides of the line of scrimmage this team could be legit in a year or so.

I think everyone is forgetting in the whole kapernick highlights is that before he was injured i believe Alex smith was the highest rated QB in the league.  I wish the walrus well and don't forget that last season many experts picked the chiefs to win the division..........the talent is there.  I jsut hope Reid doesn't try and make Jamal Charles a west coast back because he isn't one at all.

the chiefs 2nd round pick is almost like a first rounder. and the conditional pick next year can be as high as a 2nd rounder ive read. the chiefs got taken in this deal. its about time someone take andy reid in a QB trade, he has been doing it for years with guys like feely, mcnabb, and kolb. the thing is, alex smith isnt that good as some have mentioned. craww hit it on the head, smith is a game manager, if he falls behind, he is unlikely to lead a comeback victory. as for dwayne bowe, he is slated to become a free agent so the chiefs might not have him either, plus they cut steve breaston last week. as for talk of the chiefs winning the division next year, i doubt it, theyll be picking top ten again...

also, the trade cant be made official until march 12th at like 4pm i think and after the league approves it. smith probably has to pass a physical with the chiefs too, which shouldnt be a problem but is typical in most trades. also not knowing the full terms of the trade, it could also call for smith and the chiefs to reach a new contract extension in so many days or the deal is off...

This years draft is Full of defensive and offensive line talent. The 49ers are going to get even stouter and even younger which is a crazy because their offensive and defensive lines are already arguably the best. This puts them in a position to really get better at the skilled positions in the first couple rounds and pick up QUALITY depth for the lines and defensive backfield in the later rounds.

Red earth was right, the 9ers won big time on that trade.

Unfortunately game managers win superbowls too......Take flacco, eli manning, dilfer etc....And conditinal picks are always great because it is based on performance.  If a player performs then you give up a higher pick so who cares.

Reid also has a way of gettign the best out of a QB which is apparent with exactly what was mentioned....he gets higher value because he knows players strengths and designs around them and must be a pretty good salesman  too.

Im just curious if Reid and co tried to go after Matt Flynn. Flynn was successful (for 2 games) in the same offensive scheme/principles that Reid coaches. ( Flynn is younger and may have costed them less. Im sure the Seahawks want to get out from under Flynns 10mil deal.

I know Alex has a great body of work to look at but when your trying to build a team for the future...how much does alex have left in the tank?

Smith is only a year older, I would say he has 10 years left in the tank.

if they really wanted Flynn, they already had Cassel, not a big difference there.

i dont think you can call Flacco or Eli game managers. They have both been pretty d**n good in the postseason. The Ravens defense with Flacco was not near the juggernaut that Dilfer had with the ravens. Eli also has some huge 4th quarter comebacks to his name, game managers do not do that. look back at the SBs the last several years. all of the teams have top QBs except maybe dilfer and brad johnson in the early 2000s, but both had great defenses. so really, game managers havent typically won many superbowls...

Eli's first superbowl he was a game manager, you could probably throw big ben in there too as a game manager and make a case. Flacco got hot during the playoffs i will give you that but look at his career regular season stats, they scream game manager.  Low TD, Yards and picks.

With a stud like Jamal Charles that team should be leaning on him like they already do and the QB, while important, isn't the focal point of the offense.

I agree, and when Brady won his 3, he was a game manager, he epitomized the phrase at the time. It was only after he got moss in 2007 that he opened it up.

A game manager by definition is someone who won't necessarily hurt you, but won't take over a game, often they lack physical qualities to do so. Big Ben and Eli have had years where they've statiscally been MVP worthy, and other years where they've been in the top 5 or so in INTs. Both can drive a ball on a dime 40yards+ down field on a dime, Ben used to be quite an athlete too. Flacco is a 50 yard bomb waiting to happen.

A game manager is a dilfer, Bernie Kosar, Ty detmer, type in my eyes. They can win with a good d and a running game.

I'll agree on Eli but i don't think ben has ever had an MVP caliber season.  To me a game manager is more of a result of a style of offense too.  Most offenses that run first and foremost could probably get away with a game manager type QB.  You could probably argue that Troy Aikman was a game manager too.  He did what was needed to win and didn't hurt the team while handing the ball to smith for 35 times a game.

I guess it is more that all great QB are game manager types with the possibility of throwing for 350 and 3 tds any given sunday where a game manager type won't lose a game for you and will put up monster numbers maybe once or twice a season at best.
