j2dh Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 So yea i just invested in my first Nice spinning reel, a Stradic Ci4 3000. I have been searching the forums to see what rods most people have their ci4s matched up with. I'm having a hard time making that decision. Its such a light reel that its hard t find a balanced setup. Any recommendations out there? My choices are a bit limited ... i have $150 in store credit at dicks Sporting goods but their selection is slim. I just picked up a Shimano Crucial 6'10 Med fast Action Jerkbait rod to test it out ... I will fish with it tomorrow to get a feel for it but just holding the rod it feels tip heavy with the Ci4 3000. So looking for some suggestions and advice ...I know every rod is different for techniques but i mainly throw worms, topwater and spinnerbaits. Thanks guys! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 That reel is so light that many rods will feel "tip heavy". Once you find a rod that you like, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. What will you be using the rod for most of the time? My guess would be worms & other soft plastics and not so much reaction baits like top waters and spinner baits. I'd get a rod that best suits your primary application and "make do" with the other techniques. How many Dick's are in your neighborhood? In the KC metro area there are 4 or 5 that I know of and while their tackle departments are similar, they aren't the same. Different managers will have a different blend of rods. Baitcasting vs Spinning as well as low end/med prices / high end. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 I have 2 of the 2500's on Pinnacle Perfecta 7' ML/F rods and they are PERFECT!!! Jeff Quote

You might consider a rod with a Tenn. grip, more adjustment of balance then a fixed reel seat.. Just a thought.... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 I have mine on: Saint Croix Avid: 2x AVS63MLXF 1x AVS63MXF Quote
thehooligan Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 The crucials are tip heavy so dont worry about that. For what dsg carries in your price range, id probally go with the pinnacle perfecta as well... http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12476852&cp=4406646.4413993.4414792.19240556.4414814 Quote
j2dh Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 Thanks for the input guys, hoping a DSG near me has some Pinnacle rods in stock but i doubt it. Time to make a few calls ... Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 I have mine on a 7'2 cumara "previous generation" rod and feel the balance is good. Cumara rods weigh less than crucial rods so if you can justify the price I would look at a medium action rod possibly in a shorter legnth like 6'8. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 I have one. The plan was to get it on a TBS610MLXF. I'm considering other options now, maybe an Avid or the Rage 610MLXF. The reel feels smooth as butter and for anyone saying the frames will bend are crazy. No bass on this earth is going to bend that reel before the rod or tip snaps. 1 Quote
j2dh Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 So after a dreadfully long shipping process my Pinnacle Perfecta just came in! Put the ci4 3000 on it and the balance is great! The combo weighed in at 10.6 ounces! Maybe i need a new scale but that is amazing! Ahh cant wait to take it out! Hope the weather is good tomorrow! 2 Quote
JigMe Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I have it on G.loomis GL2, if you can afford it then go for the NRX. Quote
WIBassMan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Sorry to hijack a post. Anyone know how a Dobyns Champion or Champion extreme would feel paired up to the ci4 2500 reel? Quote
ColdSVT Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I have my stradic fi 4000 on a st croix premier 7MF...love it for drop shottin I just wish the reel was a 3000 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 13, 2013 Super User Posted March 13, 2013 Sorry to hijack a post. Anyone know how a Dobyns Champion or Champion extreme would feel paired up to the ci4 2500 reel? Depending upon length of rod it may balance slightly different. Even given a difference in length, dobyns rods balance very well most any reel. With a reel as light as the CI4, I would opt for a rod under 7 feet in length. Sensitivity and components of both the champion and champion extreme are right up there with any rods at this price point. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I have mine on: Saint Croix Avid: 2x AVS63MLXF 1x AVS63MXF Spot on great setups! I have the 1000 FJ Stradic, which is the same weight wise as the 3000 CI4, mine is on the LES63MXF, pure perfection and only weights 10.3 oz. with your reel would be 10.1 oz., and will assure you it will be perfectly balanced, as would the Avid Francho mentioned, you would love it.
