Snakehead Whisperer Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Would someone please explain how water temperature affects suspending baits? Thanks in advance. Water reaches its maximum density at around 39°F. Taking that into account, baits will become more buoyant the closer you get to that temperature. In other words if you have a bait that suspends at 50°F, it's likely to float at 39°F (add weight to make it suspend again.) The water becomes less dense as it cools below 39°F before turning to ice, so it will likely be closer to suspending again at 33°F. On the flip side if you have a bait that suspends at 39°F it will likely sink at any other temperature. 1 Quote
