The Pflueger President Spinning reel is only $39.99 at Cabelas until march 10

I know a lot of people probably look down on the President but for that price it's a pretty dandy reel. I just bought a Stradic CI4 for finesse fishing but for two years I used a President in that capacity and I found it a pretty darned good reel.

Best inexpensive spinning reel around. Also they have free shipping on reels right now. They also have the Shimano Sahara 2500s for $49. Both great deals. They have a couple of decent deals on rods too but nothing too exciting.

Do you guys recommend the shimano Sahara, pfleuger president, or they also have the daiwa regal Xia on sale?

Go with the pflueger. I own three different models, they are well made and dependable for the price.

I've had my eye on that President for the last week. I get paid tomorrow, so that will probably be the first thing I spend my paycheck on....after rent of course.

I'm the are two on the site. The sale one and then another one. Can someone tellme the difference

The wooden model knob version is the older design. Slightly heavier, should have 2 spools. The newer one comes with a braid ready spool, rubber knob and weight savings.

The bail on the newer one may be improved also

i own 2 of the wooden handle models and have used them for 5 years with no problem what so ever.  i would recommend them for sure.

imo they are a great value

I also have two of the wooden handled versions. For three years they have seen constant use and I have never had an issue. If you maintain them properly they will serve you well and represent one of the best bang for the buck reels out there.

Anyone have the newer model? I am thinking about which one to get. I like the new one because I can get a bigger size but the older one has a roller bearing and I am diggin that wood handle lol

I have the newer model, and it's a very nice reel - especially so for the money.

The upside to the newer reel?  The upgrades mentioned above - most particularly the braid-ready spool.  The downside?  Well, only one spool for starters where the older model probably comes with two.

Just a couple weeks ago, I bought a small Pflueger Trion to replace the reel on my ultralight (panfish, trout) setup.  It has a wooden handle similar to the ones on the older Presidents as pictured on the Cabela's page.  I think that's a very comfortable handle (though very dif'rent), too.

Look for the Templar on eBay it has the wood handle and is a good older model too. But if I were you I would jump all over the purist for 59. I hear they are sweet. I recently picked up a president XT for 45 bucks that is the model the purist replaced. All are a little different biggest thing is the weight/size of the old/new models any way you go your getting a super solid smooth real for a good price.

The Templar is actually a Wal-mart only reel and can still be found new there. It is a solid reel for the money too. But I would say jump on the Purist for 59 dollars. It is packed with goodness at a great price.

I never bought the old one because if the tiny wooden handle (it's very small and hard to hold in my opinion). Once they put the new handle on I bought one and it's one of my favorite reels.

I own 3 of the newer style Presidents and they are all excellent! I also own a Pflueger Patriarch spinning reel which is the best reel I've ever bought.

Pflueger is the Timex of the reel industry, they take a lickin and keep on tickin.  Of the 5 I own, none have ever needed service.  My arbor for about 80 bucks has been banging out 15-35# fish for over a year with no signs of it slowing down, saltwater has not affected it all.  It may not be the best reel I own but it's as smooth as my other reels, worry free and handles what I catch, I can't imagine expecting more from a reel.  And if it does fail for $80 I can buy a new one.

I'm waiting on mine for today. I ordered a dobyns champion to pair the president up with from tackle warehouse. I can't wait to try the new rod and reel out. I will come back and give my review if you want later.

When I bought mine at BPS, the salesman told me that the President was their #1 selling reel.

Best quality overall...Purist. Aluminum body, heavy duty bail wire, and better drag. Especially if it can be had for 59 dollars.

I went out yesterday with my new spinning combo. Dobyns champion and the president and man can that reel cast a small shakey head far! Tomorrow will be the true test because an 8 degree rise in temperature but I love this reel already.

I bought mine not too long ago and it isn't very satisfying. It doesn't feel smooth when reeling. This is the second one with this problem. Might be switching to shimano.
