Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 26, 2013 Super User Posted February 26, 2013 I'm getting an itch to go fish, do you have any open water in your area? Quote
grampa1114 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Went by the Blackstone River the other day and didn't see much ice along the edges. How about the Charles and the Merrimack? Anyone...Anyone... Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2013 I was looking at a project in Lawrence and noticed that section of the Merrimack was opened. Not sure about the Charles. The Res along Rte 128 in Waltham had about 75% open water. I know not fishable, but a good sign none the less. Quote
je1946 Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Merrimack from Hookset to Lowell and beyond is all pretty much open, last wk on RT 110 down as far as Methuen was all open. r rr Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 3, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 3, 2013 Man, thru the Quincy-Stoughton-Canton areas, the past few days have been great for the ice melatage! We're getting there! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 7, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 7, 2013 Things have really opened up here in the Stougton-Canton-Milton-Quincy area...I may fish in Quncy on Sunday! Quote
je1946 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Nashua river is pretty much all opened up, The next few days should clear the ramps. I was up behind the stadium on Sunday, and I'll bet U should be able to get a boat in there sometime this wk. Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 je1946...are the ramps open for the Merrimack in Lawrence, yet? They like to lock us out..... Quote
je1946 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Grandpa, I took a ride up there last yr, they had the place locked up tighter than a drum, spoke to one of the city workers who stated he didn't think they were ever going to open it again due to the drug traffic and stolen cars being pushed in. It really is a shame that the fisherman have to pay for the disrespect of the non fisherman. I took a 5lb smallie right out in front of the ramp one yr, and have enjoyed some fine fishing launching from there. I don't know what the alternitive is. There used to be a ramp and parking right off of Rt110 by the old Beas by the Rt 93 bridges, but that one is closed as well, although U can get a car topper in there. Don't know if a letter to a State Rep would help or not, I think it was the police who pushed for the closing. Nxt time I'm down that way I'll check to see what I can find out and if it's open I'll post it up or shoot U a PM 1 Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks for the heads-up je.....Darn good fishing in that stretch...brought Tate and Rhino up there last year and we were hoping for some good fishing this year as well.....I'd appreciate any news you might get....Perhaps I'll see you on the water..... Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 13, 2013 Super User Posted March 13, 2013 Last year I only ran into it being locked up one time. If I recall correctly, the state locks it when the rowing club, just upstream from the ramp, is having a regatta. It was open after that weekend. Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 If memory serves...and at my age"who knows"...Andover Academy has a "crew dock" about a mile up river. Is it rowing season again? If it is then they'll be putting lanes in Quinsigamond as well. Quote
je1946 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Took a ride today here is the latest. In Nashua NH the ramp for the Nashua River behind the stadium is gd to go. The launch in Groton for the nashua river is also gd to go but with a gd amount of mud, wouldn't attempt it without 4 wheel drive and I would be very careful your vehicle doesn't slide into the river so I would bring another guy and have some kind of chaulk system just in case. Went by a few lakes in the Westford, Pepperell,Groton area some starting to show along the edges and with some wind and warm weather should be open real soon. If I see anything in my travels open up I'll post it. Won't be long now. Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Went by Hopkinton Reservoir today...........East half open...West half iced over.....but.....the Trout truck was there so good luck to those trout fishers out there. Quote
nhbassin Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I went to a bunch of ponds in Stoneham, Saugus & Medford today. 90% of the ice is gone and I managed 2 pickerell. 1 on a rage craw and 1 on a suspending jerkbait. Cant waite for the bass to start getting active! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 13, 2013 I'll be hitting a small pond in Quincy that is wide open this weekend. Nice to get out again, for sure. Quote
Neonsnow78 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 went to lake Rico in Taunton for a few hours yesterday. Very windy, so the canoe paddling was tricky..lol..makes me want to go out and finaly get a trolling motor. Had a few bites but no luck.felt good to go out and shake off some of the rust though. havent fished from the canoe so it was just nice being out there. Quote

I would bite the bullet and get a trolling motor. After paddling for a few years, I now fish with a TM in my canoe. Second best fishing-related investment I have made (the canoe itself was the best investment). 1 Quote
freebie Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 sounds like the south shore is all set. fished John's in Mashpee last Sunday with some huge picks(one over 5 lbs) but no bass. The week before was Santuit. Managed two on the jerkbait there. Will be at Tispaquin in Middleborough for a tournament this Sunday. So glad that the weather is finally starting to change. Quote
