Hi,

New to the forum.  I have a Shimano Caenan and The older Quantum Accurist. I wanted another reel for my veritas without breaking the bank.  I was looking at the New Quantum Accurist or Shimano Citica 200E.  Would anyone have ay thoughts based on your experience.  Thanks for your imput.

First, welcome to the forums.

I've got two "old" Accurists and would easily opt for the Citica.

I have the Citica E and it's an excellent reel. Cast ability is better than some others in the same price range. Retrieve is good. I've had other reels just slightly smoother but it's not rough at all. The braking is top notch. I compare other reels cast abilities to how my Shimanos cast. None have been equal so far.

For the price of the Citica you can get a quantum Kinetic, which I think is a better reel than the Citica but that is based upon my equipment useage which is pretty hard at times and fishing both reels and owning the Kinetic. I am not brand loyalm, I have a Pflueger Supreme casting reel that was discontinued but mine is going strong, along with a Patriarch, I also have 2 Quantum Skoke reels, a 100 and a 150, 2 Okuma reels, a V-System and an Induron, an Abu Revo STX and ofcourse the Kinetic. I don't own any Shimano reels after my incident with 2 Symetres but that is another discussion. I say this because my response isn't a fan boy or bias response, a good solid workhorse reel can be had with either the Citica or Accurist but for less money than the Citica and a few bucks more than the Accurist you can get a Kinetic, it is solid, smooth, and perfroms very vell, my old one is going on 5 solid years and my buddy has his newer red model for 2 seasons now and it hasn't skipped a beat.

Citca for sure. I also use my shimanos as a benchmark for casting ability the only reel that I have found that will touch my citica and curado e's is my gen 3 stx that thing will fling a lure a mile. Im not a fan boy either I have almost every brand of reel and I have more citica e's then any of the others. IMO they are probably one of the best bang for buck reel I have encountered.

Hello and welcome, if u don't mind shopping at Ebay, you can steal an Energy right now. I've recently purchased two, both new in box from real stores, paid 69.95 and 72.76 shipped. Also bought two kinetics 49.99and 52.50 shipped. I have owned two Curados one E series and one Bantam, and can not comment on the Citica, but the Kinetic is a fine reel, casts suprisingly far, and was very smooth on the retrieve The Energies have not been used other than casting in the yard, but I can say that for the money I spent I don't think there is a better reel, was the Curado E better than the Kinetic, not as far as casting distance (casting distance is a very subjective thing and varies greatly between users, rods, line size etc), but over all yes IMO. But I can buy two more Kinetics and still not be at the price for one Curado which makes these reels a great value.

Retired, are you by any chance a left retrieve guy? I haven't found any that low, but then again I'm a right retrieve guy :Idontknow:

LEWS..............................................................................................................................................Sorry.  Couldn't resist.  :whistle::grin:

I would have preferred to say SHIMANO, but it was one of your choices.  :teeth:    After you have been on this forum for awhile you will understand the humor.

Welcome to the forum.  I can't help you with your choices.  I do have a few Shimano reels, but the Citica isn't one of them.  From what I have read, the Citica would be my choice of the two.  However, if you aren't locked into those two choices, you might want to consider smalljaw's suggestion.about the Kinetic.  I don't have any experience with that reel either, but Dan hasn't steered me wrong yet.  :teeth3:

It is a simple decision.  One says Shimano on the side and the other doesn't.  Get the one that says Shimano.
