Super User clayton86 Posted February 26, 2013 Super User Posted February 26, 2013 I just got my new Revo3 STX in the mail today. Man is this thing sexy now to get a Veritas for it but first gotta decided what to use it for. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I've been having a blast with mine. My only gripe is that you gotta crank the snot out of the tension cap to tighten the spool up. But even that is a minor thing. Plus, you're right, it's a good lookin sucker. Quote
TNBassin' Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 No problems with my tension cap. I did have that issue on my Gen 2 SX though. The STX is a great reel, can't say enough about it. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2013 I'm buying all new rods so I gotta figure out what I want to dedicate it to I like my little collection o revos I'm gathering 2 revo S's 1 SX abd now a 3rd gen STX and a premier spinning. How do you guys have your brakes set on the STX with the dual breaking. Quote
TNBassin' Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I don't use the mags at all, and I only only have 2 of the spring loaded brakes engaged. Works well that way, especially for heavier baits. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2013 That's what I was thinking also. Quote

Then I vary the mag brakes from 1/4-2/3, depending on wind, etc. I find the best performance from it when I mix the brake systems, but everyone is different. Quote
BrettD Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I have not had a problem with the tension cap. I mainly use the mag brakes to fine tune to the conditions. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2013 I think I'm gonna pair or with a Veritas 6'9" MHF or XF and use it for soft jerk baits and other plastics but I mostly throw flukes when not flipping a jig or rage craw. Quote
