Blue Streak Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 RW are you using the new version or the vintage models? I have heard there is a big difference in their performance. But you hear that about several baits, sometimes it makes a difference and at times not so much. I have a couple of friends that won't use any Rogues except the old models, swear there is no comparison. Quote
Polarkraft05 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 How do you know if it is a vintage rogue or not? Quote
The Young Gun Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I found some rouges in my dads old tackle box, probably from 15 + years ago, just in a chrome shiner color and they caught me fish. So do the new ones. I just think it's a confidence thing, I've fished baits with hardly any paint left on them and caught fish. But that's just my opinion. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 26, 2013 Super User Posted February 26, 2013 He is using the new models, but not yet the "Perfect 10's" Same ones you can buy at any tackle retailer right now! Jeff Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 27, 2013 Super User Posted February 27, 2013 Hmm...I responded yesterday...Must not have touched "Post" I have Rogues that are 16 years old, but last weekend I fished brand new lures. Maybe your friends have their older lures better trained. Although my new Rogues performed perfectly right out of the package, the lures have always been known for sometimes requiring a slight modification. The upside is that every lure is somewhat unique. Blue Streak Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 You might be right about those guys training those old lures, they probably have names for them. They fish them hard and they catch a lot of bass on them. I fish the Rogue quite a bit also they are very good for small mouth on the Ohio River. But all of mine are the old version which I have had for years so I can't compare to the new models. Several years ago when KVD won the classic at Pittsburgh he fished Rogues around bridge piers. The buzz around that tournament and by the words of KVD himself was they had to be the old ones. I don't know if there is that much difference between old or new or not. I was amazed though that KVD found out or figured out the secret about the Rogue being a small mouth killer on the river. The guy is good. I did read something about Smithwick reintroducing the old version after that tournament but I don't know what happened with that. The Rogue is a great jerk bait that probably doesn't get the respect it deserves. Quote
