Super User MCS Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 Rye IPAs are good! Two Brothers has one (Caine and Ebel, I think) that is very good. Have you tried Sam Adams Hopology mixed 12pack? Some good beers in there. I haven't noticed that 12 pack of sams. I have been drinking stone, serria and shipyard IPAs Fuggle IPA by shipyard is good. I am also interested in that two brothers. I will check out the local stores around. Haven't found a great specialty beer store yet in Jax like I had in St Pete with Shemps. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 Beer monkey got me. saw some serria nevada ruthless rye had to try it. On bottle #2 so far....Great stuff. IPA with a little spice.  C'mon, no more serious beer drinkers? yall spend too much $ on the bait monkey to enjoy the beer monkey. LOL  Sierra Nevada is a darn good brewery. I tried the rye and it was good. Also tried their bigfoot, was pretty bitter, but something I could enjoy from time to time. Buddy of mine said it was the absolute worst beer he'd ever tried, tho. And he lived in Belgium for about 10 years, so he does know good brews. Guess that means I don't, LOL. Quote

Just can't seem to develop a taste for his other stuff.... Â Now Trader Joe's has some pretty good house beers. The Botswain's varieties are pretty decent. 1 Quote

His favorite beer is a French Canadian Beer unibroue, la fin du monde. There is this hole in the wall burrito joint that has it on tap. I am yet to try it, but soon. I think maybe your buddy might enjoy that. I also like the autumn beer serria does. I am 50/50 on SAMs some I like some I don't. Those sample 12 packs are nice for that though. Favorite is the black lager. I don't know if there is a joesaround but there are some good beers at whole foods, one all natural lager is 3.99 a 6 pack and is very tasty. Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Sierra Nevada Torpedo My go to as well. I drink mostly IPA's no matter the season. My other favs are 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA, Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA, and the occasional Pork Slap. Â When I barbecue I'll usually switch over to Modelo or Miller High Life to prevent catastrophy. 1 Quote

I ran across the Goose Island Honker ale in NYC picked a 6 pack up of that. Good stuff. Chitown supposed to have some great breweries around. When I first moved to FL there weren't that many, more are cropping up like cigar city, bold city, intuition ale works that are really good. Quote

Love the English bitters but love the american IPAs even more. I started out loving dark brews, stouts, porters, black lagers, but rather drink IPA these day though I still enjoy the dark stuff time to time. Speaking of the two have you had a black IPA? Heavy Seas in the MD/VA area makes one, it is seasonal and I never got a chance to grab it when I was living there. Sounds interesting though. 1 Quote

Stone and others like them belgians are in the neigborhood. Thanks for the link that beer sounds awesome.  Really, that sucks about Goose Island. Big breweries are loosing to small guys. Bud keeps trying to catch up with different select, they had that brewmaster 12 pack and now that new black label or whatever. If you can't beat em, buy em. Quote

Jig Meister Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 If I want to just drink a lot of beer (don;t know why I would want to do that...) I will drink Budweiser  If I want to enjoy myself and drink some slow, I will drink a Guinness, Pint, from my favorite bar, with a shot of Jagermeister (my last name is Meister, so it is in my blood!) to back him up....sometimes our favorite beers also have good friends that want to joint the party. Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 It is Thursday.  I am still snowed in.  It is past noon.  I think I'll have a beer.  I've been snowed in for a few days.  My beer choices are getting limited.  I'm swilling my last New Belgium - DIG - right now.  My last 3 Shiner spring seasonals - Farm Road 966 - evaporated yesterday evening.  I promise I'm not going to get to the point to where I'm drinking " mistakes "...  These were beers that I thought I might like or got recommended to me and it turned out I DIDN'T like them at all.  For instance:  Mothers Brewing Co - out of Springfield - Old School Octoberfest & Tow Head Blonde.  Both of these beers qualify as RANK.  Magic Hat Brewing out of Burlington, Vermont  #9 - EXTREMELY RANK.  My last fishing trip last fall, I felt guilty when I gave a few of these away in the parking log.  I think that they will still work for cooking.  Over the last few years I've tried any number of IPA's , "American" IPA's, &  APA's.  I've come to the conclusion that I like the lighter, crisper tasting beers better.  Pilsner Urquell - I like a lot.  Scrimshaw - a Pilsner style beer out of  North Coast Brewing in Fort Bragg, California, I like a lot.  The previously mentioned New Belgium spring & summer seasonal beers  DIG & SOMERSAULT are very good beers, IMO.  Boulevard Pilsner is a very good beer, IMO.  I realize that Missouri isn't beer nirvana, and there are many beers mentioned in this thread that I honestly have never seen in any liquor store near me.  Too bad for me, I can't taste anything that is unavailable.  One more that I will share, that probably is readily available in most places is - SCHLITZ.  Schlitz is back, in the original 1960's formula, and it is good beer.  It is light, and crisp and takes me back to high school with every swill.  Try it, as yard beers go, it is outstanding. Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 A few that I like: Â Eddie Fitz - Great Lakes - Porter Raging B----- - Flying Dog - Belgian Style Pale Ale Genny Light - Genesee - Cheap American Lager 1 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 A few that I like: Â Eddie Fitz - Great Lakes - Porter Raging B----- - Flying Dog - Belgian Style Pale Ale Genny Light - Genesee - Cheap American Lager Good stuff, but very heavy. I have to be in the mood for this stuff. Another in this same category would be the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon. The Great Lakes stuff is always pretty good. Â The Dogfish Head 90 and 120 minute IPA's are also good if you're up for a heavy hitter. They are a bit maltier than many other IPA's, but still have a serious hop kick to them. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2013 Super User Posted February 28, 2013 I like DFH 90 better than 120, now that I've tried them back to back. I've been off the IPAs for a while, though. Quote

Me too, and the 60 is just too malty for my taste. Trying to take it easy on the beer in general because it's not helping with my weight management strategy Quote
Jake P Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Rahr and sons Texas red, shiner bock, miller high life, guinness, modelo especial, corona, landshark, Estella artois. I can go on forever. I love beer. Most of the time its shiner or corona though. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 2, 2013 Super User Posted March 2, 2013 Anyone on this thread coming to the road trip? I can help you out with some of these beers mentioned that you have yet to try. I have LOTS!  Here are some of my fav's:  Belgian: Delerium Tremens IPA: SN Torpedo or Stone Ruination IPA  Just a sample of beers OVER 6.3%  Jeff Quote
