Do You Powdercoat Jig Heads - You Should Read This

I have stumbled on the holy grail of powder paint for us jig makers. You can spend $5, for a 2oz little repackaged jar from the tackle companies...

 

 

OR

 

You can go to harbor frieght and buy the same powder paint in basic colors for $5 for 16oz of paint. Thats 8 times more paint for the same price.

 

 

I stumbled on this last week, bought some saturday and just tested a jig. It is EXACTLY the same stuff.

I love that and it is where I get my base colors from, I just wish they had more than 4 colors. The black is a matte finish but I add like 30% clear powder to it and it makes it nice and glossy and it fluffs nice and is easy to work with, a good buy for sure!!!!

I love the black from there...  you are right.. It works exactly the same.... but Shhhhh before other people start buying a ton of it and they jack up the prices

I have been using it for several years in the colors that they have.  It works but I don't think it is the same stuff as what you would buy from places like Pro Tec.  I think it is an industrial powder paint.  When cadman comes along and posts we'll find out for sure because he will know.

It certainly works good enough for my applications. ProTec I have heard is better quality. You could make a few more colors off of the base colors they have. If they had blue it would be money, if they had blue you could make every color you want.

 

Find a different source for blue and get mixn?

Yes, Jigman it is an industial powder. I spoke to a powder manufacturer several years ago, that private labeled their powder for Harbor Freight. I don't remember who it was, but I want to say that it was IVC that made the powder, however don't quote me. I have never used Harbor freight powder paint, so I can not comment on its quality. However I only use Pro-tec powder for colors I can not find, or if someone requests a certain color. For those who want to know, all my powder paint is industrial powder paint. The industrial powder is just as good as Pro-tec, and a lot cheaper in cost. To name a few, I have used, Dupont, IVC, Columbia Coatings, Sherwin Williams, Tiger Drylac, and all of these powder are no different in quality than Pro-tec. Some are a little heavier than Pro-tec, but chip resistancy and pencil hardness are just as good if not better. So save yourself some money and look around for less expensive powder. If you need help PM me and I will give you more sources.

Have you tried Pendry Powder Coatings? I was just on their site and they have a lot of colors, sold in 1 pound volumes for $12 - $15 in most cases. That's cheap!

I have never heard of them, so I can't comment on the quality. However I get industrial stock colors of powder paint for $7/lb, so they aren't the cheapest if you are looking for price.
