mnbassman23 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 If you have fished this rod give me some feedback on it. TW got me (again) and I ordered one for 112$ today. What is the minimum and maximum weight you'd pitch/flip with it. Thanks Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 I have one. But i paid more than that! (Good deal!!!) Lowest ive used on it is 3/8 ounce jig with a trailer. Ive used as much as 1.5oz punching with it. Sweet spot really is around 1/2 with a trailer. 3/4 T rigs feel good too. You will like it alot. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 Oh and mine isnt telescopic. Ive always been affraid to get a telescopic rod. But it does have alot of back bone, ive boat flipped 4 pounders in the boat. Its good with braid and you dont have to cross their eyes to set the hook... Quote
mnbassman23 Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks for the feedback man, great stuff! I had a feeling you'd probably fished one and was hoping you'd comment. I have never bought a telescopic rod either and have been hesitant to buy one, but with the price i figured it was a good time to try. I mostly flip/pitch 1/2-3/4 with the occasional 1.25oz so it sounds like it should be golden for what I need. Is the action a true fast or more of a mod/fast in your opinion? Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 No. Its like a mod fast. I have began to think that Powell rates their tapers faster than they should. I have 2 723's that say XF but are really a true fast action. You wont have any trouble getting a positive hook set. Between the length and the heavy action you dont have to swing hard. I use 50a lb braid and sometime 16-20lb leaders FC . The taper is also easy to load with 1/2oz and trailer. Makes for easy pitching. How soon before you guys in MN start fishing Quote
mnbassman23 Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks again Teal. A lot of my pitching rods are more mod/fast so it should work well for me. Fishing opener is May 25th up here in mn, long ways away lol. I do fish a couple boarder water lakes that open mid April, thankfully. These big sheets of ice are pretty depressing. Quote
