CPBassFishing Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Hey everyone, I decided to take apart my broken silver max to see what was wrong. I laid out all the pieces and everything seems fine, but the reel won't spin the spool if it has any pressure on it whatsoever. The spool and the gears spin perfectly without pressure on the spool. The gears are all fine, nothing seems to be broken. What is the problem? Is it the drag washer that has gotten too smooth or what? If anyone could tell me what part is broken so I can replace it I would greatly appreciate it. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 did you just try cleaning all the dirt and grease out and putting it back together? i think i remember ur problem being 'dirt grinding' Quote
BassinB Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Often with Revo's the anti-reverse star that is underneath the brass main gear isn't seated properly and doesn't line up with the piece that is moved when you push the button on the reel. So when you push the button it will free spool but when you turn the handle it will not reset the button and engage the spool. The inside of that reel looks just like my revo's so I'm guessing the operation is nearly the same. I have seen that anti-reverse star stick to the bottom of the main gear before. Flip the main gear over and see if it has one stuck to it. Hopefully this helps. If that is not your problem, I would use acetone to clean the drag washers off and put them back in and see if that helps. good luck. Quote

This is an old one I thought I stripped the gears on. Quote

Its just that when I hold the spool down, the handle turns but not the spool. If I was to fight a fish I would not be able to reel it in. Something is not engaging properly. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 ur pinion yoke is upside down. it has a 45deg angle on it that fits the 45deg angle on the cam assembly. if it is upside down the pinion gear won't reach the spool shaft pin at the bearing=no turn. 1 Quote
CPBassFishing Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Can you describe what a pinion yoke is? I'm rather new to how a reel works. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 OK first off you need the reels schematic!! never open a reel without one..... The pinion yoke is the white nylon part that the pinion gear sits in, and, it looks fine to me. What I don't see in the picture you provided is the pair (2 drag spring washers), without them mounted ontop of the AR inner-sleve You will not have the proper pressure placed on the crank stack and the drags will not engage properly. They are the washers that are shape like so () make sure you place them as you see it here. Good Luck & Tight Lines! Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 did you open that reel w/o schematics?! you brave young buck! as stated its the white nylon piece. in ur picture there are 2 small springs sitting on it. try turning it upside down. the pinion gear is the gold gear sitting in the middle of it. it turns ur spool Quote
CPBassFishing Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 alright thanks I'll flip it over and see if it fixes it. Schematics? Pssshhh. I have a photographic memory. I can picture every piece and where it goes just from seeing how it was when I took it apart. (And I put all the pieces in order.) Quote
