Hanover_Yakker Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Just a heads up for those interested in the Lexa. I spent some time with both local Daiwa and Shimano reps at Bass Pro yesterday during their fishing sale. We all learned something that you may or may not be aware of. I was test fitting the Lexa on the Compre and Crucial and learned that the forward reel seat on the reel will not secure properly due to how the Compre and Crucial reel seats are constructed. The opening is too shallow and will not accommodate the Lexa properly. You can force it on there if you try hard enough, but you actually may compromise the rod reel seat. You could visibly see where the Lexa was cutting into the reel seat on the rod. It also did not provide a substantial enough mounting area for my tastes. So much so that I would fear the reel would come un-seated under a heavy load or from a large fish. On a different note, the Lexa fit beautifully on a St. Croix AVID because the AVID uses a more traditional reel seat. Rod builders will know the specifics of this but thought I would share my experience from a casual gearhead. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 24, 2013 Super User Posted February 24, 2013 Good to know. Lots of folks seem to be interested in the Lexa and some of those might already have the new-gen Compres and Crucials. I keep eyeballing the Lexa 100 - price on-line is down to $100. For such a new reel, I'm not sure I understand why it is discounted so far already. At $100, it may very well be the best value at that price point - especially if one is a fan of the Daiwa mag braking. I wish they would make a "50" size Lexa - the 100 has more line capacity than I need. I guess there's still no replacement for the Sol... Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 My Lexa is paired with a Premier and fits beautifully. And Goose, it is an amazing reel for the money. Hanover, I assume you were talking about the casting reel, right? Or were you referring to the spinning reel? Quote
thehooligan Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I almost pulled the trigger on one on ebay for $104 shipped. I played with the lexa's at a local fishing show, definitely a quality reel for the money. My problem is i started playing with the zillions and cores and the expensive reels and forgot about the lexa real quick, lol. Ill probally pick one u in the future though... Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Guess I should have specified that this was for the baitcaster. Quote
