Sorry if this has been posted before, but it seems this year it's going to be jerkbaits.  Already being shown on the Bass Pro website, it seems that everyone is going to rush out and get new jerkbaits.

Being from Nebraska, and used to colder water fishing, jerkbaits have always been a go to for me in colder weather, and I hope this leads to big sales on jerkbaits!!!!

Sorry, I was just going on an overall "general" bait that they were using besides jigs.  It is quite amazing to see how it always ends up, with squarebills and lipless cranks the last few years being popularized with their success at the Classic.  Or maybe, I guess, it is just an increase in sales and not really becoming more popular; but the success of the Classic winning baits can be great for certain types of lures.

I thought no one pays any attention to what the pros are doing??? Yeah right. :poke:

Well, it wasn't the Classic, but a friend and I kicked some booty yesterday!

Caught a couple on a Red Eye Shad, but 28 of 32 were on Smithwick Rogues.

I love  me some jerkbait action!

32 fish is always a good day!! Any size on the jerkbait bite?

The rogue is a good bait.

Did you notice that IKE mentioned that he used the "scatterrap" but didn't say he caught any fish on it. Not much of an endorsement for the next "greatest lure" on the biggest stage in bass fishing.

Caught mostly pickerel on jerks.

Haven't had much bass success, but RW, sounds like a fantastic outing.

I have always loved catching bass on jerkbaits, it is one of my favorite bites to get hit on.  I have been wanting to pick up a few of the Rogues, but wasn't sure if they matched the quality of the Rapala's I've been using, but the price differential (while somewhat slight) has always had me interested.  Hearing that you've caught a bunch on them really makes me want to get a couple for the spring here.

My big intro to jerkbaits was a Stacy King video which really goes into great depths on jerkbait fishing: when to use, colors, etc.  If you have time I would suggest watching it to add another weapon into your arsenal.

Hope everyone is having a good one!

Was the pointer not working?

I would say can't quite count it out yet. If the water was a little warmer I think we would have saw what that bait is really made of! I am not saying it works I just think the conditions were not favorable for that lure to shine.

My thoughts exactly. This lure will come into play eventually. I can't wait till the shad spawn to try mine out. :)

Probably would have, but since Smithwick just became a sponsor lately, that's what I fished.

Some buddy's of mine went to table rock Saturday.....caught 62!!!!! Most came on a wiggle wart. Said the biggest five went about +/-19lbs.

When KVD won in 2011 I picked up a square bill for the first time (of course I had just started fishing seriously again). Since then I've won at least 3 tourneys on them. Last year I never thought twice about buying a Fast Lane tube...maybe I missed out. There have been moments where it might've been a good option but with soft plastics there are SOOO many different choices that'll work.

I doubt if I'll buy any jerkbaits this year as a result of the classic. Being in FL they aren't quite as useful but can certainly have their place. As usual I will keep an open mind and give them a chance when the occasion might call for it...but not at all because of the classic.

I have never been a big jerkbait fisherman mostly due to the fact that I never started fishing in colder water situations until just last year. I have picked up a few here and there to try out this year though.

I am more impressed by roadwarrior's and 11justin22's outings than the lure being used in the Classic. I would base my buying patterns off of what ordinary people here have had success with, not what lure supposedly won the classic.

I never really fished in cold water either, but our lake is ridiculously tough to fish in the summer, so I couldn't pass up the cold water bite. Just got some Smithwick deep Rogues, and a regular Rogue that I'm gonna fish this week. I'm also thinking of going back to BPS and picking up some Xcalibur EEratic Shad that are on sale right now.

I was never big on jerkbaits but started using them this winter with good success in the 42-45* water.

I tried Husky Jerk, RC STX, Pointer 100, rogue, Mcstick, and a BPS.

I really like the pointer the best and bought more of those.

How did you like the Mcstick? I want to try the new 115 this spring

I collect jerkbaits more than any other class of hard baits. I like the Megabass Ito Vision 110, too!
