WhiteMike1018 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 They were $8 a pop at the Dick's display at the Classic. I picked up 5 or 6. Hope to fish them tomorrow. Something different. Hey maybe you could tell us how they performed Quote
jeb2 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 They were interesting to fish. I fished both a 5 and a 7 model today, both on the same setup. Spinning combo, 6lb FC coated line. It seemed like I needed to keep a pretty decent retrieve speed to get that erratic action, but they definatey danced around pretty good. The 5 could be over powered pretty easy, so it was a bit of a balance to fish it fast enough, but not too fast. The 7 went deeper and seemed to be a little more flexible/easy to fish. Bite was very slow today, and I did not catch anything on the Scatter's. But they did look good, so I have hopes of them paying off when the fish start biting a bit better. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 must be a pretty epic rod for only 100$ if ike is using it They will use whatever they get paid to promote. Not saying it's garbage but I've heard a lot of gripes about the guides not being in line. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 And im pretty sure Ike gets the pick of the litter. Im sure he wouldnt go to the Classic armed with anything that he thought would break, malfunction, or hinder his ability to land fish. (Unless its a trolling motor) jk, i hated that for him, having to deal with TM issues at the classic. Quote

The guides on the micro version have serious QC problems. But once you get a Veritas with good guides, that rod is amazing. DO NOT buy a Veritas without getting to visually inspect it though. I ordered a couple online and had to send 2 back 3 times to get ones with guides that didn't have cracked epoxy, or guides that looked like a drunk on a merry go 'round put them on. Quote
Brackish Angler 228 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I don't use many cranks because I kayak fish in small water, but the gear monkey is stabbing me right now. And I don't even have a cranking rod or reel! Quote

B@ssCrzy Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Got a couple on pre-order at Tackle W***. I fish a lot of lakes that don't have a lot of cover to bounce stuff off of. So the erratic action is very interesting to me. We will see what they do. I am also going to be interested to see what the toothy critters think of them. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 22, 2013 Super User Posted March 22, 2013 I think they will be very good options, especially in areas where there isn't a whole lot of cover to bounce off of. I have always had good action on rapala baits and no durability problems. Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Toothy critters will most likely force you to buy more Quote
BradH Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Anyone had much time on the water with these yet? I got curious and ordered some with my points built up on my card. Looks like the shads have shipped but the cranks won't be in until mid April. Quote
BassinB Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I just bought a few of the cranks from our local fleet farm. they had an entire rack full of all the styles. lookin forward to trying them. Quote
Bass Dude Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I might try them. I'm stuck on the old wiggle warts. They have had that "hunting" action for years...you can pay a pretty penny for the old warts too!! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 23, 2013 Super User Posted March 23, 2013 Really surprised there aren't reviews about this thing, so much expectation I would have thought a couple responses by now. Over here I found them at cabelas but it was too late to throw them Quote

Over here I found them at cabelas but it was too late to throw them When I get mine I'll do a thorough review. I plan to do some serious SMB fishing around mid April and I should be able to compare them to the shad raps, flicker shads, squarebills, DTs, rattle baits and jerkbaits I throw that time of year. I don't really buy into all the hype, we'll see. I'm guessing they will best be used with a spinning rod or M/ML casting rod due to their light weight. I've got a ML crankin' stick with a 50e that will probably be my #1 choice. Should be interesting. Quote
muskiebassfisherII Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 if lucky craft or megabass make a bait that "hunts" then we'll see some serious fish catching baits. rapala should offer a mid range crank, or a "pro/tournament" series with better finishes, colors, detail and construction. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 27, 2013 Super User Posted March 27, 2013 I tried twice (shad) but the weather was just too much to get a good feel. It did weave slightly with slow cranking, after that it was too windy to try any more retrieves. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 27, 2013 I just bought one of the Scatter Rap cranks today at my local BPS. I'll be at Bull Shoals and the White River all next week so hopefully I'll get to put a few miles on them and have a report when I get back. 2 Quote

Super User tomustang Posted March 30, 2013 Super User Posted March 30, 2013 I was just playing with them again, burning them in on the retrieve, I like the wider weave when brought in faster. It's got to be warmer here to get a bass on the faster action, perhaps the pickerel will be enticed Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 1, 2013 Super User Posted April 1, 2013 They just arrived at Dicks Sporting Goods. Just bought the countdown Shad in Silver. I will definitely give the a go this weekend! Quote
Gangley Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 HHMMMM bait fish that "hunt"" You might be looking too deep into the word choice there Bobby A baitfish-imitating lure that moves erratically? Sign me up, I'll give it a whirl. Quote
Blue Streak Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I have 4 of these and they look awful good to me. The craw pattern is incredible. if lucky craft or megabass make a bait that "hunts" then we'll see some serious fish catching baits. rapala should offer a mid range crank, or a "pro/tournament" series with better finishes, colors, detail and construction.
