Just wondering if any of y'all knew any clubs around here.

West, check out Links on the top of the Forum page and find Bass Clubs.

Then go to the great state of Texas and note the clubs listed.

You have two challenges:

1.  Find the B.A.S.S. and FLW Texas Federation individuals and contact them about clubs in the Waco area; and

2.  Find a B.A.S.S. or FLW bass club that has an age that will allow you to join.

My club has a 16-year old membership rule. We have one guy who joined when he was 1t6 and he is now 32, married, and has two girls. A great guy and a fantastic fisherman.

Starting a middle school bass club sounds easy but it is very difficult. Here are some of the obstacles:

1.  Club members do not have boats.

2.  Finding enough boats for an adult driver and two middle school age kids is not easy.

3.  Schools will not sponsor such a club as there is a tremendous possibility of legal action against the School Board if a child is injured or if there are molestation allegations.

4.  Young kids who are starting to bass fish can get frustrated easily if they are not catching anything. They can also blame the boat ower for not putting them on fish and the boaters will stop helping them as us old folks don't need that aggravation.

5.  If you have a teacher who is a bass fisherman they can help you but they are limited by their individual resources and they need every child's parent to be involved. A lot of parents do not want to take a weekend day to go fishing if they are not into fishing.

6.  Bass fishing equipment is expensive. Some of the other students may not have the resources to purchase proper rods, reels and tackle which puts them at a tremendous disadvantage.

I think your original idea of a middle school fishing club is great. I want you to understand the ramifications and obstacles you can face when trying to start an fishing organization in middle school.

Good luck and I sincerely hope you are successful in your efforts.
