Jig Rid For 100-150?

I'm looking to get a new jig/t-rig rod and would like to stay under $150. What would you suggest? I currently am using a 7' MF Veritas and would like to get something with slightly more power. Will be using baits in the 1/4-3/4 oz range.

Why not stick with the Veritas and get a 7 MH or a 7'6 MH?

St Croix Avid on sale or picked up lightly used in the Flea Market.

During an online sale or perhaps used a Phenix Recon 715c is where my money would be at. Extremely light, sensitive and powerful rod. Excellent for fishing jigs and texas rigs. I enjoy light equipment and under 4 ounces is pretty special for a rod tossing 3/4oz jigs.

Another option would be a discontinued Shimano Cumara if you can find one. Perhaps the cuc-74h or cuc-77h. Hard to find though.

Some others to throw in the mix would be a used Loomis imx mbr844c. Great old school rod I love mine and they are readily found for about $150.

Also an Avid as mentioned earlier seems to be a fan by many. What length do you prefer?

7' - 7'3" to fit in my rod locker. Not interested in another veritas.

Gotcha. My jig rod is a Powell Endurance 714. 7'1"Heavy and it is awesome. A little more than you want to spend but if you look hard yyou can find them online for under 150. Retail is 169.

Avids, Dobyns Savvy, Phenix Recons or Duckets would be great too if you can find a used one or one that is on sale.

Also look at a Shimano Compre. That is in your price range and alot of guys on here use them. I think they make a 7'2 H

Well you can get a Vendetta 1st gen for cheaper online or at wally, maybe around 60-75, then you would get a Lews SS on sale also.

For a buck twenty, Fenwick HMG Flippin Stick. It's 7'6" but has a telescopic handle to fit in your rod box.

I haven't used one, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Duckett Magic series. They range 150-170 so its right at the top end + a little but I really believe in getting the best/most sensitive rod for bottom contact presentations. You might also consider a Powell Max. The 7' rods run about 140. While I haven't used a Max either, I do have an Endurance and its a great rod. Both companies have a great rep so I would feel confident buying either one.

If you're comfortable with used, another vote for a 7 foot mh/fast Avid. It's what I use for 1/4- 1 oz. jigs.... At least for pitching them. Plenty of power. Heck for $150 or so you might find a new one with a little digging.

 I argee with this or even the 7' MH-F is a good jig rod, in fact it is really good, a lot of feel for what you pay. There is also the new "***", in quotes because the name is strange if you haven't heard of them. A lot of guys that fish high end rods are calling it the $100 *** Black rods the best rods you can get even up to the $200 dollar price point. The have a 7'1" MH and a 7'1" H or the 7'3" MH or 7'3" H, take you pick.

I found 68mxf for 100$ shipped to my door a 2 months ago on E bay. Best 100 dollars i've ever spent.

 

I would also look at the Phenix Recon/M1 or Dobyns Savvy when tw or btd have their 15-25 % off sales. 

 

If you don't want to wait for a sale i've also heard good things about the *** ***, but i've never personally fished one.

I'd suggest a Shimano Compre, I use one and like them a lot.

iRod Genesis II retails for $150 I'd suggest the 704 it would be perfect for what you want!

I'm in the same boat. I plan on getting another carbonlite to hold me over until I can catch the new kistler klx on sale. They have been getting stellar reviews so far.

Another good option is the st croix rage series. Same blank as the avid with micro guides and runs right at 150. I am thinking of picking one up myself in the 7'1" MHF variety myself for jigs.
