Mud River Matt Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Ok guys, I really like fishing spinnerbaits at a paticular body of water I fish and have done really well in the past. However, I have never used a trailer on any of my spinners. I was watching a Hank Parker video the other day and he said he ALWAYS uses a trailer. So my questions is, what are some of your favorite trailers to use on your spinners, thanks for any and all comments, Matt Quote

mc6524 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It may sound silly but I like a Zoom fat boy single tail grub with the tale dipped in either chartreuse or red. 1 Quote
The Next KVD Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Its all personal prefence. I don't use any trailers or trailer hooks for that matter with my spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 20, 2013 Super User Posted February 20, 2013 It may sound silly but I like a Zoom fat boy single tail grub with the tale dipped in either chartreuse or red. I assume you mean the Fat Albert Grub. If so then x2 on the suggestion. I only use trailers when nothing else works otherwise I go without it. Quote
Mud River Matt Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Hey Roadwarrior, can you only get those online or does a retailer carry them. I have a Dicks, and a Cabelas close to me.... Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 If I use anything, it's a plain white Mister Twister grub. My friend puts half a paddletail worm on the back of his sometimes and it seems to work for him. Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 In the spring, I like a curly tail grub for the water resistance as I can crank it slower and still keep it up in the water column. If I use one in the summer, it's a twin/ straight tail. These are thin bodied and offer very little addition of resistance which reduces the lift (compared to a bulky trailer) and that allows me to keep the bait down. I normally don't use one in the summer unless I'm going for a bigger profile and then, I'll normally downsize the blade on my bait to compensate for the additional bulk/lift. Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 This year ive been having great sucess on putting a paddle tailed soft plastic swimbait on the back. Bulks it up a little more and gives it extra action Quote
alexczarn Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 A Berkely double-tailed 3" grub usually. Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 20, 2013 Super User Posted February 20, 2013 Curly tail grub, baby fluke, or kietech impact. Quote
Christian M Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Powerbait 7" twist tail worm. I cut it down to the desired size, put the tail section of the worm on the main hook, then place the trailer hook on. By far my favorite, but I vary depending on the spinnerbaits characteristics Quote
TNBassin' Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Rage Tail grubs work well. I use them on my Boogee baits as well. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 20, 2013 Super User Posted February 20, 2013 Hey Roadwarrior, can you only get those online or does a retailer carry them. I have a Dicks, and a Cabelas close to me.... I bought some recently at Cabela's. Most online retailers carry a similar pattern. They may all come from the same manufacturer. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 20, 2013 Super User Posted February 20, 2013 I usually don't use a trailer on a spinnerbait, but when I do I use a Zoom super chunk that matches the color of the skirt. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted February 21, 2013 Super User Posted February 21, 2013 BfishN tackle Pulse-r or moxi is my favorite if i actually use a trailer. otherwise it's just a trailer hook. Quote

I do however use them on a buzzbait. Quote
joetomlee Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I don't have much luck with spinnerbaits but have heard many peopleclaim that split tail worms and pork trailers work well for them. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 22, 2013 Super User Posted February 22, 2013 No trailers for me 99% of the time, and the very few times that I us one it is a normal curly tail gurb, 3" for a 1/4oz and 3/8oz bait and a 4" for a 1/2oz and larger. Quote
Blues19 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I use a twin tail grub as a trailer at night. Other than that, no trailers Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 25, 2013 Super User Posted February 25, 2013 And don't forget the trailer hook, too! Quote
BenB54 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I like the zoom tiny flukes if I add a trailer. Quote
