UofO Lip Ripper Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I'm gonna buy 2 Shimano chronarch's, one 201E7, and one 201E6. However, $400 is a chunck of change and have been wondering if I should wait for possible discounts. Winter is almost over and with spring in the air I am hoping Shimano has a promotion some time soon. I remember around the time the new Chronarchs came out they had a $30 rebate. I was just curious if anyone knew about when promotions usually occur or if any Shimano staff could hint towards upcoming deals. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Keep an eye on our Flea Market, great deals pop up quite often. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 I didnt see that Shimano was having any discounts in this years Spring Classic at BPS, then again I could be wrong and will find out Friday. Quote
rdollar80 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I haven't seen any promo's yet and I have been looking to buy. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 BTD had reels on sale for 20% off for Presidents Day weekend, but i just checked and that must be over. Chances are other retailers will have some deals for the Classic. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Don't forget that BPS offers a trade in credit voucher the first week for each serviceable reel you donate towards the purchase of a new reel during their Spring Fishing Classic. For Chronarchs, they sell them at $199, so per the trade in voucher, you would get $30 off meaning your Chronarchs would be $169. Or you could opt for the Citicas at $129 and get $25 off. The rod voucher is the second week. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Shimano usually doesn't participate in the BPS trade in program. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 It is a store deal not a shimano deal for the trade in. I know last year i picked up a citica with the reel trade in and manufacturer rebate i saved $55 i think total. Quote
UofO Lip Ripper Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 I live in Oregon so no BPS for me and all the reels I own are worth more than $30 I might just have to wait for a Cabelas special. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Shimano usually doesn't participate in the BPS trade in program. That's old news. They have the past two years. 1 Quote
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 That's old news. They have the past two years. Ah....sorry. Doggone it, now you made me rethink my trade in plans. I'm still fairly sure it's gonna be a couple of Pro Qualifiers though. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 I picked up three Chronarchs last year. Combined with the rebate, I think I paid about $120 a reel. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I wish that was going on again. $200 is just too high for me. $120 per reel though and I probably wouldn't look at anything else. Quote

Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Shimano is participating in the reel trade in at BPS. Hootie I thought that was just a Bass Pro thing. Like as in bring in a working reel and Bass Pro gives you a certain % off, no? Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I think what Hootie is referring to is that there are no exclusions during the reel trade-in period. A few years ago, they had excluded a few of the high-end reels, because people were bringing in busted reels and then getting massive discounts on Shimano COres, etc. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Before your career as a Shimano Rep (), Shimano would exempt itself from the reel trade in program during the BPS Classic sale. Their position is to never devalue their current product line by allowing "sales." Some places can't even advertise their retail price if it's less than MSRP. For years, there was negative press about this fact, and Shimano's position was that they donated brand new gear to kids' fishing events, rather than used junk. They obviously changed their stance the past couple years. Quote

That would make sense. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 .....and a closer look at the price points of the high end Abu's, Shimanos, Daiwas, Lews, etc. relative to the discount you get isn't phenomenal by any means but $40-50 off isn't too bad I guess, so a Shimano Core would be a decent value at $300 but you might be able to do better online if you're diligent enough.
