I just got into fishing this past summer. My friend told me to try these, so i got some. My question is how do you fish these things? Also what size hook and weights?   thanks.

i use a 4/0 ewg. i usually fish them Texas rigged with as light as weight as conditions allow.

Excellent pitching bait,do like the name implies, pitch it right into the brush. If fishing heavy grass you can cut off the little "arms" from the side so it slides through better. Great jig trailer too, for a bulky profile and slower fall. I also love them on a carolina rig.

You got the baby or the regular size?

I got a few packs of each (bait monkey visited me before Christmas lol)

so when you throw these things in the brush, do you bounce it, drag it, twitch it ????

try out everything you said, and see what works best for you.  I've had success with brush hogs doing almost anything... deadsticking it, swimming it back, twiching it around, try everything you can think of.  Never limit yourself to what you were told is the "best" when you're trying new baits, or even with baits you've used forever.  I've had some of my best fish using techniques that people would overlook, in places that people would overlook.

Cliffnotes:  Don't be afraid to experiment, and never pass up trying something because someone told you it won't work.

I like them T rigged best. They are a very versatile bait and can be fished many ways. They are probably the best of that type of creature bait.

+1

The baby size has become one of my go-to baits. I use them a lot of times where I used to use a worm or lizzard. I use a 3/0 EWG for the baby size and a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG for the regular.

Flylining them over weeds or grass works pretty good too.. ;)

I use (baby brush hogs) with 1/8th or 1/4 oz. Slider: Spider Head Classic hook (2 1/8th" long) and Texas rig with some Jacks Juice(crawfish)...you won't miss many bass....that's a fact.

I use with 8-10 lb. fleurocarbon and spinning tackle...it's a MINT set up.

**** I use the BABY brush hogs...fits the hook the best- and if you get a tap, you will land the bass 95% of the time. ( not a scientifically proven statistic, just randomly grasped from the air really.  But, they will catch you fish.)

since youll be fishing the brush its good to use either the sliders hjerk was talkin about or the screw in tungstens to keep it form getting tangled as bad. also its not completely necessary to cut the appendages. you can just snip the loops on the sides to keep em from catching

I started using Baby Brush Hogs about 2 years ago. I consulted many here on Bassresource.com and I was told to T-rig it with as light a weight so you can still stay in contact(feel) the bait--cast it out,let it settle, give it a shake, twitch it,shake it and just repeat. Speed at which you do this, depends on how the fish tell you they want it.

I caught alot of fish(Bass,Bluegill and Green Sunfish) at the base of flooded trees when the water came up from the rains. My favorite color is Green Pumpkin/Chartail (*** Baby Brush Bug)

They are good for flipping and pitching into cover, in which case I almost always peg the weight. I usually use regular worms or lizards for more open presentations but these baits will work in open water as well.

T-rig with mustad 5/0 EWG hooks. I don't peg the weight. sinker size depends on the mood of the fish and the cover I am fishing. Generally I prefer a little heavier weight. Let's me cover more water quicker. I pitch it lift it once and then move to next pitch.

Colors depend on water, time of year, depth, and mood of the fish. I generally start out with either Watermellon/Red, PB&J, or Camo. Junebug, Junebug/Red, or Black/Blue will work for me at times.

Good luck,

Jack
