fowlskies Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 My local DSG has a Citica 200E on sale for 79.99 plus 10% off for being a display model. This money is suppose to go to a new battery for my trolling motor and I also need an anchor. The money would be better spent on the former but d**n I am really close to pulling the trigger on the reel and pushing myself around with the oar when in the fishing spots like I did at the end of last season. thehooligan Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Get the battery, pick up another reel in the future... Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Use the money to get what u NEED. Deals on reels come and go all the time, but you need a battery now. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Go with needs before wants. If you are on good terms with a manager there maybe they would consider "holding" the reel as a lay away type of deal if you put some money down on it. If not get your battery and anchor and when the funds are available you may find the citica e on eBay gently used for close to the same amount. Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Buy the battery now and if you keep your eyes open you may see a few guys looking to sell their reels after BPS,and BTD and other places have their spring sales. Quote
fl_bass Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 If I were you I'd get the battery. Unless you want to be a bank fisherman like me. Nothing wrong with being a bank fisherman but if I had the boat I would try to do what is needed so I could float around and reach the spots I can't cast to. I know that you really want the reel. But you need that battery. Quote
fowlskies Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Whoa you guys are doing a good job of backing me away from the shiny new reel. Although I shouldn't be surprised, there are a lot of level headed guys on here. fl_bass, I have a gas motor on my boat so I'll be able to get around, it just limits me to using an anchor to position my boat. In all reality I will most likely be able to buy a battery by the time my boat goes in the water or shortly there after. The thing is I have already overspent my fishing budget and don't want to spend more but I really would like to step-up in quality of reels. It would push back me buying my the battery for a more sexy purchase. That and I already own more reels than I can bring on my small boat this would just be the best one on it. Keep it coming guys...you're talking me off the ledge at this point, my wife would appreciate it even though she has no clue about it. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Sell the other reels to help fund the new one. Quote
Greenstealth Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I mean really at some point in the near future, you will get $70 for a battery, if not and you feel guilty about the reel, sell it or trade it for a battery. jus sayin Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Just do it, get the reel all the cool kids are doing it. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 I am in the same "boat". I need new TM batteries this year, but...........St Croix has a rod promotion going on now..........hmmm.....actually the choice is simple. I have all the rods I "need" (never as many as I want) but ....no TM batteries = no fishing. So batteries it is. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Get a piece of cardboard and a felt pen and write this, " WILL WORK FOR DEEP CELL BATTERY " Stand at the entrance to your local Walmart. People will be so stupid, you'll have the cash in an hour and can grab the reel right afterward. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 It's a shimano get the battery Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 There will always be batteries, the Citica E is no longer made. Quote

fowlskies Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 There will always be batteries, the Citica E is no longer made. This is my dilemma and what has me second guessing myself and weighing out what choice I should make. Quote
Christian M Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 There's a saying that goes something like this... "Don't run passed what you need chasing after what you want" Quote

fowlskies Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Ya that one had me laughing too. I was picturing myself out in front of Walmart...but I think I'll pass on that thanks. Surpised LgM didn't jump on clayton's comment either, lol. Quote

Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 It's a shimano get the battery At least its over an expensive boat battery. I would take a $2.00 D cell battery over a Abu or Lews. There, I didn't want to disappoint you, lol 1 Quote
