I don't know if there has been a similar topic but kind of like hooties show yourself thread, I thought it would be interesting to know what you all do when you're not practicing to be a professional angler.

I'll start. I'm an optician at Optimax in upstate ny. We make large, small and everything in between lenses for aerospace, defense, semiconductors and other odd things. I generate the lenses using cnc machines and polish using conventional spindles and rouge.

It pays the bills and is 8 min from home. Great company.

Guess I'll play. Middle management with a government agency up here in Canada. Satisfying because I get to make a positive contribution to the careers of the people that work for me in developing them for bigger and better things.

Very satisfying because I don't work any longer on live sewer lines in the middle of August heat. That humbles you.

I am a theatrical Technical Director. I am responsible for taking a designers drawing of what they want the show to look like and provide it on time and on budget. Has to be on time because the show opens regardless, so our deadlines mean something. Had to be on budget cause mod theatre has no extra capital if you need more oh well. This typically means figuring out what materials to use, how to build it to specifications, and how to accomplish the finish specified. Which also entails creating a build scedules and drafting shop drawings for people to build off. Currently I am doing this at a university where I also teach young ins how to build scenery. This also means I supervise up to 25 kids in my shop building as many as three shows at a time.

I also do capital upgrade purchasing and equipment maintence for the department as well as mentoring the sound technicians and designers.

I am a Safety and Training Manager in a weld shop of 420 welders and fabricators.  We build steel pressure vessels (hyperbaric chambers, air receivers, oil seperators, ect.).  It is a challenge needless to say.  But, I am home every night and get to see my family daily.

Before I grew up and had a family I spent 12 1/2 years in the U.S. Army as Military Police.  Other than no longer wearing a uniform, honestly about the same job...

I’m a retired Federal worker.   Covering a span of forty years I worked all levels of Voice communications systems; from systems infrastructure design & installation, network architecture engineering, and unique voice communications systems.  The last eight years I enjoyed world travel as a satellite earth terminal field engineer for the Diplomatic Telecommunications Service responsible for installation and maintenance of U.S. Embassy communications systems.  Over the extent of my carrier I spent 50% of my life on the road traveling throughout the U.S. and mostly third world country's.

9 years as a Law Enforcement Officer here locally. I was a field traing officer and specialized in DWI detection and drug impairment detection. I was also one of 2 Instructors in my region certified to teach DWI detection and other advance classes. I also worked as an EMT part time for 8years.

For the past year and a half ive been a chemical applicator/herbicide technician for a Lake Management Co. Its a great gig, ive been on beautiful lakes up and down the east coast.

The past month or so tho, ive been going through the hiring process to "get back in the business". But i will still be working as a chdmical applicator here on my local lakes on my days off...

It's great seeing all the different backgrounds in here. Personally, I'm a CPA for a government agency and I own my own tax preparation business for some extra seasonal income. Busy season is around spawning time though :(

I work on an Oil Drilling rig as an Electronics Tech.  My schedule is 21 days on and 21 days off.  Its great to be able to fish all I want for 21 days, but with my schedule its hard to get in a club, or to fish a tournament trail reliably.

Im a delivery driver for Dominos.  I also make the pizzas.  Im kind of the man at my store.  Im quicker on my deliveries, I make better looking pizzas than the 2 assisstant managers and Im the highest paid driver even though pretty much everyone else has been there at least 6 months longer than me.  Sometimes Ill be making 2 pizzas at once while telling my manager what toppings go on a certain specialty pizza.  Its kind of sad sometimes.  I swear that store would fall apart without me and I think they know it.  Thats why when I mentioned I was looking for another job, they basically threw money at me.  I know its only Dominos but if Im gonna delivery pizzas, Im gonna strive to be the best delivery driver I can be.  That all may have sounded sort of arrogant but hey, its not arrogance if its true.
