riskkid 2 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I voted Shimano but am very impressed with a new Lews I bought several months ago. I have Abu's and Daiwas, there is nothing wrong with them either. Shimano is just my personal preference....especially the Cronarch 50MGs, wish they still made those! Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 21, 2013 Super User Posted February 21, 2013 I have used the high end Shimanos, Abus, and Daiwas. They all make great reels but at the end of the day, I choose to fish Shimano. I have nothing against any of the other reels, just a personal preference. Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 21, 2013 Super User Posted February 21, 2013 I voted Lews. Thats is purely based on value of what I get for MY dollars. The build one heck of a reel at an incredible price. I feel that the Lews TP and the Lews Team Speed Spool are the best values or "bang for your buck" Does this mean i dont own or wont use other reels. Absolutely not. Its probably because ive owned most of the major brands. There are some other reels that i LOVE. Daiwa and Shimano make darn good reels. If i was made out of money im sure I would have a few tricked out Calcuttas, Cores, Pixys, and Zillions. But im not so im going for the best reel (IMO) for my money...Lews. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I voted Bass Pro. I love my Shimano Curado and Citica E reels. I like the new G reels in hand but haven't fished one. But I have a few older Extremes also and they are very enjoyable to use and much much less costly. I added some extra bearings into their handles which made them feel smoother for lures you chuck and wind like crankbaits and spinnerbaits. This isn't an option for my E reels. Not a big deal but considering all you get in a BPS reel for much less, and even less again when on sale, I think they are just the way to go here. Lew's is really similar as well. I'm also really interested in the Daiwa Lexa 100. Can't wait to see that up close. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I am very surprised to see the way this is totaling up. I would have thought that Shimano would take number one, they have held that spot in every poll I have ever seen, and for sure no other company reaches as many different species with as wide a range of tackle that has been put to the test and proven for as many years on as many continents. But I am very surprised with Lew's over Diawa! This is a "reel" surprise for a company that is back in the industry for no longer than they have been with their new line of reels and rods. I would have thought they were really flexing their muscle if they could rank 3rd or 4th in this poll. I voted for them, but it sure looks like they are acquiring quite a following! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 21, 2013 Super User Posted February 21, 2013 Lews has made a big splash in the past couple of years. If the reels hold up, they are certainly a contender. It reminds me a lot of the Revo introduction which brought Abu Garcia into the new millenium! 2 Quote

That is exactly what I am waiting to see, and with mine I try and make sure I don't treat them any different than I did the Curados they replaced, it will be very interesting to see if they compete with the longevity and durability I got out my B's and D's. I think with the new reels introduced this year, we see where they want to compete also. I don't think we will ever see a reel from this company to compete with the top end Shimano and Diawa reels in the 500 dollar and up categories! I think they are willing to keep it in the blue collar category, and probably a much safer place to compete for this company! Quote

It reminds me a lot of the Revo introduction which brought Abu Garcia into the new millenium! I had Abu's before, but not the Revo. Though, the new Revos look nice. I have friends who had Diawas and they love them. I always hear good about Shimano's. My father owns a few and loves them. Quote
