We have all heard how well red/orange rattle traps work in the spring.

What about other red baits?

I like an LC Pointer 100 in the cool early spring. I see they make a red version.

I also like a 1.5 squarebill and was thinking of trying a red one.

And what about soft plastics? Or is this just a reaction strike thing?

How about a red jig and red craw trailer?

Red spinnerbait or red blade?

I heard it may be because Craws tend to be redder in the spring.

What if there are no/very few craws in a lake?

Does it really make a difference? What are your thoughts or experiences?

I throw red square bills.  With my jigs, I'll put a few red strands in from time to time.  My trailers stay natural.  I have a red spinner bait I'm going to give a try.

As far as if it works?  Heck yeeeah it does!

I haven't thrown all red hardbaits, but Gitzit's 3.5" tube in smoke/red and black sparkle has been a go-to bait for years. More recently, Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver in watermelon/red has produced well. Last year Missile baits Drop Claw in watermelon/red brought a couple of big smallies to the net. I like red flake in soft plastics - especially on sunny days.

I have thrown crankbaits with red in them with some luck but alot of the jigs I tie have red strands in them and like stated above i stick to natural colors for my trailers and plastics with red flakes in them have done good for me and I know red shad is a very popular color for plastics idk what it is about red but they eat it so I use it.

Red squarebills, black and red jigs, and red spinnerbaits can all be very good in spring along with the red traps that most people fish. I fish red baits all year round though, they don't stop working just because the water warms up.

Honestly I'm not sure why people stop throwing red as the water gets warmer.  Have you ever noticed what happens to a crawdad when you throw it in boiling water?  When the water warms up they get redder.  I would think red would be the best when the water gets to be the warmest. I know I do pretty well throwing the bomber coffin bills in red when the water is about 90.
