grampa1114 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 If you think Buffs are retarded then you should see what you look like right after MOHS on your forehead. 1 Quote
gripnrip Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I don't care what I look like. I'd rather use a buff instead of applying sunscreen. I do care about getting a sunburn. Quote
Zach P Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 There are a lot of different brands of buffs out there but personally Hoo Rag is what I use: http://www.hoorag.com/ Not only do these provide great skin protection but you can get some really great styles and they are at a great price point as well. In addition you can design your own buff which come in bulk quantities if you have a fishing team or club and want to create some for everyone. Hope this helps someone! Quote
flipin4bass Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 My wife says I look buffed when I wear em. 1 Quote

Blues19 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 i ended getting up a buff yesterday, only cause so many of yall made me realize that its important to be safe when it comes to the sun. Many in my family have had spots removed from their skin. I wanna stay protected! Thanks guys! Quote
Zach P Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Do u know what spf these are. I couldn't find that info anywhere on their website. Hey man, I looked and in the FAQ portion of their website it states it's a UPF of 30. The following is a upf chart developed by the American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorists and this is the standard by which all clothing is measured in terms of sun protection effectiveness. UPF Rating Protection Category % UV radiation Blocked UPF 15 - 24 Good 93.3 - 95.9 UPF 25 - 39 Very Good 96.0 - 97.4 UPF 40 - 50+ Excellent 97.5 - 99+ As you can see the Hoo Rag rates as a 30 which is very good and blocks 96 percent or more of radiation. Hope this helps! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 1, 2014 Super User Posted April 1, 2014 After having some "pre-cancer" cut from my head at the ripe old age of 27/28, I started taking this sun stuff much more seriously. Now I wear, long pants, long sleeves, hat, buff and sunglasses all the time. I too do not like it over my nose, so I have a stick of sunblock made specifically for your nose I roll on a couple times a day. Might look goofy, but better than cancer! Jeff 1 Quote

I did some other reading and found that a t-shirt is usually between 3-9 spf depending on the type of blend. It's kinda scary low and shows me the need for a well made spf shirt. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 2, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 2, 2014 Notice the hat, gloves, long sleeve shirt and buff (under the hat, I had just pulled it up). All columbia, all spf 30, always on when I'm outside fishing or working. Quote
Basseditor Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I use as much covering as I can all the time. Even in 100 degree temps I'm wearing them. Although I wear long sleeve shirts, I find it cooler to wear short sleeves shirts and sun sleeves. I have several brands of gloves, sleeves, buffs, etc. I don't feel like a cooked lobster when I get off the water. Quote
RipSomeLips Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 http://www.merck.com/research/common-myths-sun-protection.html I thought this was a short and informative read about sun protection. I found it when I was doing some research based on this thread. These are the kinds of things we need to teach in school if you ask me. Quote
0119 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 It wont cover the back of my neck, just rides up. I gave it to my wife and she wears it when they are doing a raid on grow houses! Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted April 3, 2014 Super User Posted April 3, 2014 Never on the water without one anymore. I have three in the boat, at least. my favorite is the original UV Buff. I have Smallmouth, Turtle Grass, Tarpon, Largemouth, and several others. They're an essential part of my gear. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 I always wear one when I'm on the water. Great for he sun, great for keeping bugs out of your face when you make a run also. Wear the Buff gloves as well. Couldn't be happier with both products. Quote

kikstand454 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I wear mine everytime I go out. Period. Also long sleeves and long pants. If you get loose fitting, specialty clothing, its actually much cooler in the summer than shorts and a tee. While I always say support any members here. ...and try the bassresource gaiter first.... I recently saw this brand on Facebook and they run weekly 40-75% sales on FB. I picked up two for $12 and they are high quality, loose fitting and light. Search " salt armor". They're fast and courteous too. 1 Quote
RB 77 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Crucial! I wear both the neck buff and the long sleeve UPF. Quote
ABW Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I wear one while bank fishing at a local park and I get tons of looks. Quote
