How many of you wear buffs,outlaw sashes,neck covers,tubes or what ever they call them protect to your neck ,ears and face from the sun while fishing? I have been thinking about purchasing one. Any suggestion?

During the summer and winter months - all the time!!!  They are amazing.  Many people think they are only for summer use - not true.  I went out on the water a caouple weekends ago to chase some yellow perch with fellow kayak anglers.  My Hobie buff kept my face nice and warm and protected from the chilly winds but still was breathable enough that I wasn't sweating under it.

 

Now, during colder months, there is one drawback and that is your exhaled breath is typically warmer than the outside air, so if you wear one with polarized glasses, the lenses may fog up when you exhale.  Small inconvenience, but its worth it in my opinion.

 

On a side note, the coolest one I have seen is the one that looks like the faces of the Ghosts from Ghost Recon fame - pretty killer if you ask me, but black is not the best color for summer sun.

I bought a buff to wear last year but only used it as a neck cover. I forced myself to try it this year in florida. For me it is comfortable over the neck & ears but under my nose since I wear glasses with fitover sun glasses. Over  the nose causes my lens to fog up with every breath. Some companies make them with breathing slots for the mouth which would help with the fogging. You can pull it over a ball cap or wear the ball cap over it.

In the summer you occasionally dip it in water to stay cool.

I use them all the time now. I tried these because of the breathing holes, but I'm not sure I can get used to having them pulled up over my nose.

UV will kill you.  Get one and sun gloves to boot.

Everyone I know who fishes down here in Fla wear's them.

An afternoon in the middle of a lake on a 95 deg day it's allmost mandatory.

Buffs are the way to go. Don't limit yourself to only using them fishing-  I keep a spare one in my hiking backpack. Really came in handy at Yellowstone last summer.

I have a couple and the really work well. I'm going to try mine in winter now you guys mention it. Like RW said, I also do a bandana in summer and dip it in the cooler!

I wear a buff in the winter, with a ski hat and hood, its nice and warm and your keeping the uv rays off your cheeks. In the summer i wear a buff with a really big hat. Also have columbia uv shirts and dr shade gloves.

A Buff offers great sun protection.Another side benefit of using a Buff along with sungloves is for protection from insects, notably No-see-ums.

I wear a buff.  Probably one of the best pieces of bass fishing protective gear I own.  I did a couple tours overseas and got pretty beat up by the sun over there.  Ever since, if I am in the sun, the skin on my lips will burn very quickly.  It doesn't matter if I put SPF90 on my lips they get burnt.  Then the skin falls off.  Weeks of burned cracked lips....Last summer I bought myself a buff.  It took a little bit of getting used to, but now I won't leave home with out it.  I will probably get a second one for this year.  I wear glasses and as long as I keep it below my nose I don't have a problem fogging up.  My one fishing partner hates it as it somewhat muffles my voice when I talk.....maybe I should get him one too.

      I have the one with the thermal layer in camo for hunting. I wanted something that I could slip over my face quick if need be. Its perfect for what i need it to do. Not too hot that it cant be used early season either.

I work outside and wear one everyday with gloves and long sleeve shirts.  I've tried most and my favorite is the Columbia.  The material is softer and stretchier than most.  It is also easier to breathe through.

Mine is treated with insect shield, I seldom wear it, it's too hot and my glasses fog up.  On a cool morning it does a nice job as a neck scarf.

Finally..............I love it when people start paying attention..........but cover those arms and lather up those legs because there is a lot more skin on you than your face and hands. Very light and vented shirts may be the answer.

It appears the Pro's are starting to get the word, or they need more advertising space - I don't know which. I just saw Ric Clung (?) on Bass Pro TV and he's covering up too, but what's up with the ponytail ? X2 on the coverup,,, unless you have very good medical insurance cause you'll need it; just ask Al Linder.

My sister works at a dermatologist and after hearing about all the horror stories of people having cancer carved off their face you bet I wear one. I also wear long sleeve shirts.

 

I have been thinking about some gloves does anyone recommend a nice glove that isnt to hot or bulky.

Family history indicates that these are not optional for me, instead I believe a Buff is more along the lines of "Survival Equipment".

 

So, YES, I wear them.
