BassinB Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I have the Navionics Hotmaps Premium North chip in my new Lowrance Elite 7hdi unit. It shows on the navionics website certain lakes that are in HD should have 1' contour lines. On my Pc-App it show the lakes with 1' contours but when I put the SD card into my Lowrance the same lakes that are supposed to be in "HD" have only 5ft contours. Any ideas as to why? I bought this chip for the 1' contours exclusively... Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 18, 2013 Super User Posted February 18, 2013 Have you updated the card so it has the same data that PC has. Quote
BassinB Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 So far I really like the elite 7, havent had it on the water because its all ice yet up here. But the processor seems much faster than the elite 5, and being able to use 3 split screens is convienient. Im looking forward to using the downscan overly as well, it looks as though it will make identifying structure and fish pretty easy. Yes, if i zoom all the wAy in to 50 or 20 ft the lines are still in 5 foot contours. I think i have updated the card correctly, i will try again from the navionics web store i suppose. I havent figured out how to transfer things on my pc-app to the sdcard yet though.. Quote
BassinB Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Ok after much searching I've figured it out. Just so that everyone that is thinking about buying this chip or any of the premium hotmaps chips knows, the lakes that are listed in their "HD" list on the website are NOT all 1 foot contour lakes like I had thought. A very select few are 1 foot contours while the others on this list can be anywhere from 10-3 foot contours and are still considered HD. I wasn't doing anything wrong I just mis-interpreted the website I guess. Quote

BassinB Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Lake geneva, big cedar lake, big green lake, waupaca chain to name a few. Quote
pmnav12 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Hello bassin, Paul with Navionics here. Those lakes you mention are absolutely 100% in one foot contours. You can check our web viewer as well. So the question becomes, why aren't you seeing it. Questions: you bought this chart seperately correct? It was not the add on Navionics chart that you have the option of buying with the Elite 7? - you have Navionics turned on under the chart options correct? - chart options all contours shown is selected? If this still doesn't solve the issue then could be Elite software. I have a guy in the office checking with Lowrance right now ad sending a rep out to do some tests on a unit. 3 Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Now that's what I call support I've called Navionics tech support a couple of times, and they resolved my issues quickly and courteously. Their programming is done by Fugawi, which is not a Japanese name, but most appropriate for navigation software. The Navionics company headquarters is a half hour from my home. It's located in Wareham, MA. However tech support is in Canada. One of my fellow lobstermen in Westport had a boat named Fagawi. It is only a variation in the spelling, but means the same thing. pmnav12 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi Rhino, Not quite but close. Fugawi actually uses Navionics charts in many of the software programs but they aren't our programmer for charts. We have our own facility for that and actually is all operated out of MA. Fugawi is one of our great partners that does sell our charts an also designs of planning software among other things that use Navionics. Tech support still in Wareham for Navionics and tech support for Fugawi, as you mention, in Canada. Just wanted to clarify so not confused. Meanwhile, thank you for the compliments!!! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 1, 2013 Super User Posted March 1, 2013 Paul is "good people". He helps on several web sites. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Paul is "good people". He helps on several web sites. Welcome to BR Paul, hope you stay and take part in the fun. Santa was good to me this year and gave me Navplanner 2 which Fishing Rhino recommended; I'm also using Navionics Marine & Lakes: US & Canada on my new iphone 5. Both are working great for me. Quote

It's been three years since I needed tech support, and I'm away from home without access to my paperwork, so I was just winging it. I knew there was some "partnership", for lack of a better word, and that Fugawi had some part in the programming. Anyway, I have chips for the north and south areas of the U.S. and the Navplanner2 installed on my computer. One of the best things for the money any sweetwater fisherman could have. 1 Quote

If you think they're good, try the iphone Navionics Mobile apps; it's Navplanner 2 in your pocket and more. Although they need to change the "Shallow Area" graphics; the red dots are just too distracting, a solid red would be much better,, IMHO. Quote
joetomlee Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I just recently purchased the Iphone app as well and have nothing but the best things to say about it!! Quote

I don't see that happening. But for those techies who have them, if you fish, the Navplanner2 application is a must have. Quote

pmnav12 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks Wayne and thanks all again. Ill be sure to hang out here a bit more often. So the answer to our friends issue above... Lowrance software. We did some tests and it is picking random lakes on the Elite 7 not to show at all it not in one foot. We have a call into Navico and will most likely require a software update. Thanks for letting us know a d hopefully we get this new release out quickly. Sorry for the issues Quote
