Creampuffwar Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I am looking for some help with pairing my reels to the rods I have, as I get set up for the upcoming fishing season. I only fish in private ponds, and I want to know how to match gear ratio with line, lure (top water/jerk bait/jig, crankbait) and type of rod. Thanks for your help. Reels: 6.2.1, 5.8.1, 5.4.1 Rods: 6'6" Medium, Fast 6'0" Medium Xtra Fast 7'0" Medium Fast Quote
tbone1993 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Well the 66 m should go with the 5.4.1 and 10-12lb test fluorocarbon for cranking. 60 m x fast 10-12lb mono with 5.8.1 for topwaters(zaraspooks) 70 m fast 6.2.1 jerkbaits to spinnerbaits etc 10-12lb fluorocarbon. 1 Quote
Phranchise1213 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 For jigs and wormin, pick up a rod in the 7 ft medium heavy fast range, medium fast might get you into trouble, especially fishing around cover. Quote
Creampuffwar Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions. I could really use some new rods and reels, so in the meantime I'll take advantage of what I got. Quote
