Im new to them, really want to get to catch a fish on one..

Is this a spring bait? Is there a specific retrieve you use or just burn it like a spinnerbait? Do you use trailer hooks or trailers or neither?

Any advice would be great..

My favorite lure to fish honestly. A true big fish bait that can be cast extremely accurately and can be dragged through some snaggier cover than you'd think. I use them anywhere there's bass, brown or green fish. River smallmouth love them. Ive even caught a  27" largemouth off a bed on one.

 

I don't have a brand preference, I've used almost all of the major brands and will occasionally get one that won't "keel" evenly, but most work just fine, even the generic $3 models as long as it has a good hook. I do prefer the single propeller over the double prop models and the inline "snagless sally" types. One other thing I've noticed is after a few BIG fish, a lot of buzzers get out of tune and just won't run right. There are plenty of ways to attempt to tweak and retune them, but I've had so so results as a whole. I had high hopes at one point for the terminator titanium wire buzzers, but couldn't get one to keel straight up and down, a pet peeve.

 

Some feel an ultra slow model is best, I don't fully subscribe to that. Perhaps when the fish has a tight window of opportunity to react...perhaps. But I typically don't want a fish to get a good look at my buzzer. Believe me, a bass can cover ground VERY, VERY quickly. One of the coolest things I've ever seen was an 8lbr emerge from under a 10' clump of algae in open water and chase down my buzz bait from nearly 40' away.

 

 

Season? For me, its usually late prespawn thru mid fall. Color? I like black most of the time. If I'm around shad the strike king perfect skirt in white w/the blood red belly strip is also a favorite. I've experimented and am fully convinced a river smallmouth doesn't care one bit about color...Ive caught them without a skirt!

I prefer in-line buzzbaits like this.  Use slow, fast, on top of the water or below.

I have a tri wing strike king, in chart, never had any luck on it. Day or night. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Ill fish it in cricks with smallies or lakes with largemouth

Cavitron Buzz Baits, no trailer hook and early morning or at night. Nice little steady retrieve seems to work great with the Cavitron.

Buzz baits are probably my biggest confidence bait. The only way to fish it wrong is to keep it out of the water. Used to be a huge fan of the original lunker lure but I am switching over to cavitrons whenever I get the money cause those things are sexy. I stay with three colors chartreuse, white, or black. Not saying others don't work those are just what I like. I don't use trailers or trailer hooks personally because I throw them in nasty cover and feel they increase snags. I throw them all the time.

Can I fish a buzzbait all through the day? I've heard how lethal they are at dusk. I might have to buy a few cavitrons. I'm just like everyone else... Trying to catch the biggest fish in the water. Large and small mouth

I normally fish them in the am till the bite dies and come back around dusk. But I usually have one tied on for any thing I encounter through out the day. They are typically better in those times but I have pulled fish out of brush and laydowns in the middle of the afternoon just not as often. The strike is amazing, so much fun to fish. Then again I am no expert just like them a whole lot.

The man who posted this topic wanted advice, not someone trying to hustle him. As far as I'm concerned, any buzzbait I use is the best in the world.

Early and late in the day are great times to throw a buzzbait, but on overcast days when there is a light chop on the water they can be effective all day.

I like to fish a buzzbait about as slowly as I can reel it with little pops and jerks during the retrieve to look like a shad flipping on the surface. I like a buzzbait for the same reason I like a jig, it seems to get me bigger bites than other topwaters.

At times it can be but usually when I'm on a good buzzbait bite I'm catching fish pretty consistently. However it does seem like those days I'm going a little longer between bites and working a little harder that I'm catching the bigger fish on  them for some reason.

I use buzz baits from late spring to late November, I prefer black but will also use white if the fish want it, my favorite buzzbait is one that has single copper blade and is black and makes lots of bubbles and squeaking noise.  The blades has holes in it making more bubbles and can reel it in slower.  I cant say the brand because they are 15 years and cant recall.  Key items with a buzzbait the ability for it to rise with a few turns and to be burned and or slow rolled, has holes in the blade(s) and it needs to squeak and should be black lol..  Certain bodies of water I fish its the only top water bait I through and it is my one of my favorite topwater baits as well, fish typically don't miss this bait and when they do toss it right back.  Works on LMB as well as smallies, it can be very productive if the fish are in the mood, I like to use it first to weed out aggressive fish and from there go down to maybe a pop-r, then something underwater.  Give the buzzbait a try its a fish catcher.

I use buzzbaits and other topwaters all day, including bright, sunny afternoons. Despite conventional wisdom, you'd be surprised at the action you can get on midday topwaters.

I've been using those for many years and I can't understand why you're not catching anything other than you may not have used them in the right place at the right time. I'm unaware of a buzzbait that won't catch fish.

Love me some buzzbait action. Orderd some Megastrike buzzbaits Friday with my jig refill from BTD during their sale. Had some room to fill to get my free shipping over $50, so I figured I would try them out. I will post on here how I think they do/hold up. I usually buy them when I can find a good deal due to they get pretty beat up with me. Actually didnt buy them due to the brand, saw the picture first, then I clicked on it, then I noticed the brand.

Buzzbaits summer nights...Cavatron,Boo-Yah, even caught them on those 2.00 culprits....they all work
