The Rooster Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Every time I come to the forum on my iPad, the main forum page resizes itself three or four times before it stabilizes. Then when I enter one of the topic specific forums from there, that one then resizes itself once or twice before stopping as well. Last night I was here on my PC and didn't see this happen one time. Now I'm here on the iPad again and it's doing it. It's driving me nuts. Edit....I just posted this and it resized itself twice before it was done. Then clicking to edit, it did it again. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Laptop and have always had text editor cursor control problems here, and no where else. My son, who is a SW architect for Microsoft looked at it and could only shrugged his shoulders and said it didn't appear to be my laptop. I don't know how these things communicate with the host but it appears something is wrong with the site; I can go on other forums and not have any problem. But with that said, the site is well worth the effort to work around a small problem with a text editor. Quote

Normally this is because of advertisements - doesn't just happen on iPads. As each advert loads, the sizes are communicated to the browser in the HTML, or CSS, etc., the browser makes on-the-fly adjustments. EDIT: I should qualify that mobile browsers using WebKit are likely at issue dealing with whatever advert+backend system BR uses. On my iPad, it usually stops after the page has fully loaded. Isn't limited to bassresource.com based on my experience. Not sure the back-end that BR uses, as that may be part of the "problem-but-not-really-a-problem". its cuz its an apple............ BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 16, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 16, 2013 Clear your cache and refresh your browser. Ya, you already tried that....do it again. Trust me. Quote

Traveler2586 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Clear your cache and refresh your browser. Ya, you already tried that....do it again. Trust me. How would that support a site specific issue? With my cache in place I have text edit problems here, but not at Facebook or other forums. Maybe I don't understand how to clear a cache, I do "cont-shift-delete" to delete my browsing history; do I need to rebuild my Windows index? My problem is cursor function, it's either locked on, locked off; or will not go right to left; or it will jump from the text entry field to the quote field; I can click a mouse location and not see a cursor bar appear, but if I start typing letters appear. Super User Darren. Posted February 17, 2013 Super User Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Cache is cookies right? If so did that 4 times no luck. It just started this last week for me Cache, in Layman's terms is the stuff your browser keeps on your hard disk when it visits sites. Cookies are different. Cache can get corrupted, or sometimes forces old site behavior to remain despite the site having changed. That's when a cache file may refuse to be overwritten with the new data. That's why clearing, or flushing your cache can help fix issues. Some, not all. Here's another description that may help. Plenty out there on the web. http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-cache-and-vs-cookies/ Edited February 17, 2013 by DarrenM Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted February 17, 2013 Super User Posted February 17, 2013 Not going down that road,, but I love my new iphone 5 I'm on my iPhone 99% the time I'm on the forums. I still hate apple products I tried messing with a galaxy s3 but I'm so used to the iPhone I didn't like it. I will probably be getting an iPad soon anyways but I still hate apple... Quote
The Rooster Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Looked up clearing cache on iPad. It said to clear history and cookies and data. I did both, twice, but had no luck. Each time the site still does the resizing thing. I can live with it I guess. It was annoying at first because it does not do this on the wood working sites I visit. It was causing me to enter forums and click things I wasn't trying to hit at first because it would load the site and I'd think it was done so I'd tap the screen, only to see I'd hit something else that had jumped up in front of me instead. Your product decision suggest otherwise. I love the iPhone. I have no experience with the iPad other than an ex-girlfriend and a classmate having one. I prefer a laptop and a smartphone, I don't need a tablet of any kind. Quote

And I still kept on drinking Mello Yellow even though I hated it (it is not a substitution for Mountain Dew, people, but that's another argument). Anyway, I finally stopped ordering it in Coke only establishments and tried, of all things, Coke. Surprisingly, it's not bad. Neither are androids. I use an iPad at home from sheer laziness to lay in bed and be online with a larger screen. But I'm annoyed to no end that Apple won't run Flash programmed videos and other things. I've had experience with androids in the phone market. I wonder how a larger one would have been? What did you not like about the Galaxy? My wife has one, not sure which but its a year old. She likes it. As far as I know, each device is set up user specific and operates on the android system. I can't use her phone at all because of how it's set up, but I can mine with ease. Both are androids but mine is a different brand. Quote

Im ashamed of you. Competely ashamed. Switching operating systems takes a little getting used to. Make the switch to Android and you will love it so much better than iOS. I guarantee it. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 17, 2013 Super User Posted February 17, 2013 I'm not a fan of change I'm a order the same thing every time I go out never try new things. I tried explaining that to the ex wife when she asked me why I haven't started dating yet and I don't like change to try new things but I know single and doing what I want so I'll stick with it for a while just like my iPhone 4 it's old it still has like iOS 3 something I think I don't update it cuz I don't want it to change anything that and it's jail broke. If you haven't tried already, use Chrome for iPad (free). At least for me, on an iPad 4, it doesn't refresh as many times as you seem to be seeing. Quote

Change is good. You gotta get out of your comfort zone sometimes. If its jail broke try a new OS on it. Live a little buddy. You've earned it. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted February 17, 2013 Super User Posted February 17, 2013 I just noticed on my iPhone it refreshes or resizes alot also i do the same thing click one thing then it moves and it makes me select something else. It does it on almost all the forums I visit. Quote

As a Financial Analyst, find me a company of Apple's caliber with no longer-term debt. Exactly!! Steve Jobs knew what was going on and what path to take. I admire it and I'm drunk at the moment!!! This information shouldn't discredit the latter information. Quote
