Super User Darren. Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 Oops. I missed that one! It's all good. As I see it, stop Maine from doing the stupid, and hopefully the rest of the country will learn. 1 Quote

Fish Chris Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Okay. So I signed it..... for what it's worth. The fact is though {and I know fishermen hate to hear me say this} but fishing methods, and opportunities in general, will be picked away, little by little, until in 20 or 30 years... certainly no more than 50, fishing as a sport, will no longer exist.... except maybe on private land. Too many kids glued to a TV, or an iPhone. Not enough time left for "the real world". Fish 3 Quote

You're right that too many kids are glued to TV, other electronics.... Quote

Too many kids glued to a TV, or an iPhone. Not enough time left for "the real world". Fish Not trying to be a dick but you really are ignorant to how much fishing has blown up in the past few years. Kids used to want to grow up and be astronauts but now I am meeting kids that want to fish professionally . I met a 5th grader that knows more about fishing than most people my age (20). I also met an 8th grader that is looking to get onto not only his high school's team but also a college team down the road. These are just two examples of the dozens of kids from grammar school to high school that I meant in one day at a fishing show. On top of that I meant dozens of kids at a fishing show a month prior that are extremely into the sport. I do not know about you but when I was in 5th grade I was not able to explain the intricacies of using tungsten over lead in a drop shot. Hell in 5th grade I wasn't even throwing a drop shot. I know adults complain about kids being attached to tvs and cell phones but honestly that does not apply to my younger brother and his 50 + friends and the neighborhood kids. They are out side playing and doing everything I did when I younger except their cell phones are way more advanced. Sorry this was a huge rant lol The only people that support bans like this also support gun bans and things of similar nature. Anything to protect our fragile children. 1 Quote

Fish Chris Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 tbone, it's not I often I thank someone for calling me ignorant LOL But ya' know what ? I did a little surfing, thinking I could then come back and hit you with some facts.... and surprise, suprise. After 3 decades of steady decline, it does now appear that the number of anglers seems to be rising again.... finally. I sure don't see it around my area (San Fran Bay area / Sacramento) but maybe its starting to pick up more in the rural areas, or the mid-West, or back East, first ? What you will most often see around here, is where they raise a million trout in a swimming pool. Dump them in a pond. Then people pay $ to go pull them right back out, then tell you, they are a fisherman And the best part for these guys, is that they can just let these fish swallow there powerbait all the way down, while they play on their iPhones LOL Anyway, although I'm still not completely convinced (studies often say, what the researchers want them to say) I do thank you for the heads up tbone. I'll definately keep this book open now. Peace, Fish 2 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 19, 2013 Super User Posted February 19, 2013 Signed when it came out on this thread at the beginning of the month: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/112602-maine-legislators-poised-to-ban-all-soft-baits/ It just amazes me that our elected few will go out of the way to save a loon (lead ban in MA recenty) and now fish, yet we have natural disasters here in our own country and then it's foot dragging time when it comes to sending aid/financial relief. Or save a loon and a fish, but Phillip Morris keep producing cigarettes please. Quote
0119 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 There might be more casual fisherman who will never be involved enough to support the rights of fishermen, but FishChris is right. And we as avid serious fishermen, myself included really dont do enough to pursue our right either. If it be waters with fly only requirements, circle hook only laws on saltwaters to federal and state marine advisory commissions like here in Fl. that are stacked with commercial fishing lobbyists that are personally/financially involved in decreasing recreational fishing and increasing commercial limits. We are seeing the beginning of the 'end' of the shooting sports. One day even your grandpa's antique pocket knife will be a target of control. 1 Quote
CountBassula Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 when i posted this few weeks ago, i got a warning from the admins about no political stuff, wth? Quote
grampa1114 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Just signed on myself.....I don't think 'stupid' is political but I could be wrong. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Ya, read about this in my BASS issue I got today. Dumb dumb dumb. Us fisherman are more protective of our waters, than probably anybody making these laws. If the few plastics that get broken off in the water were causing a catastrophe and killing off ridiculous amounts of fish to where i might not be able to catch a bass because the plastics killed them all...sure I'd stop. But how long have soft plastics been used in fishing? Long enough to see if they were detrimental to fishing. And are they? I wouldn't say so. Quote
BassnChris Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I heard about this tonight at dinner..............I will not even get on my soap box about this...................Just gonna sign the petition.....hope it helps......since I do not live in Maine. Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I heard about this tonight at dinner..............I will not even get on my soap box about this...................Just gonna sign the petition.....hope it helps......since I do not live in Maine. I also signed it from Missouri. I think this is absolutely asinine, thought I believe that soft plastics thrown over the side of the boat as trash do harm the fish. This petition states that the fish pass the soft plastics if they ingest them, but from a link to an article I read out of this forum, that would appear to be untrue: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/79567-will-fish-die-if-they-swallow-plastic-worms/ I've always kept my torn plastics until we return to the ramp to dispose of them, but I am now ever vigilant in making sure my partner, daughter or friend, doesn't throw em overboard.
