How do I take a screenshot of what's on my graph? I've got a Humminbird 587 CI HD. I've inserted a SanDisk Ultra SDHC Card (8 GB) but when I hit MARK on the graph (which is what I thought I had to do according to the manual) it says "Waypoint created" as well as "No Writable SD Card Available" or something of that sort. When I check the System Status, it shows that there is a SD card in there with how much space is available on it. Am I using an incompatible card? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Steve

Screen Snapshot is set to ON. SD Card is unlocked, formatting I don't know. It's brand new right out of the box. How do I go about doing that? I've never done that for an SD card when used on a digital camera...etc so I didn't think about that for this.

Stick it into your computer.  Open up "My Computer".  When you see the device, right click it and select format.

Formatted and tried again. No go. Creates a waypoint and displays a message saying "No Writable MMC/SD Card Available." Also tried going to the Snapshot and Recording View and tried to start a recording. It gave me a message saying "Error creating recording. Recording has stopped" or something like that.

Does it matter that I'm using an SDHC instead of just SD?

Will have to wait on Wayne or someone else on that.  I do not know.

First, check the card in another device like a camera and see if it will store pics.  If it does, then the issue may be with your card slot on your FF or your FF's capabilities.  Check your owner's manual for the minimum class of SDHC card that the FF can read.  Most work best with class 10, but if you have a class 6 or lower, it may or may not be usable in your FF.  Other things to check are you might want to look at the card itself and make sure the lock tab is not in place.  Some generic cards really don't work well compared to higher grade ones.  Another tip that I learned is to ensure that when you empty an SDHC card's contents using your computer that you also empty the trash can on the computer while the card is inserted.  Otherwise, you'll get a card full error as well.

Yes, you can use a SDHC card. The SanDisk brand functions the best in Humminbird units.

It's hard to even find a card smaller than 4GB any more.

The SanDisk Ultra SDHC Card (8 GB) card you have will do fine if it is not defective.

It will work fine with the lesser size cards too. I have a 128mb that I use for software updates with the higher end models.

The speed is not an issue, just the Class 10 writes the data faster if you want to take screenshots in quick succession.

I have had issues with PNY and some camera brands.

I have a Panasonic 8mb that came with one of my older cameras that works fine too.

Tried it in my digital camera, took a picture and stored it fine. Seems the card itself works.

Should my next step be to contact Humminbird at this point or is there another possible solution?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Do this test first, purchase a cheaper SanDisk card of any size and speed to try. You can buy a SanDisk 4GB from Walmart or Radio Shack for about $10.

If you have any other cards that you use with your camera try them.

That will let you know if the card reader is defective (that can be the issue).

Once you determine where the problem is, you can call Humminbird and let them know the tests you did.

Question: What is the whole model name of that unit--every number, letter, and word?

Where is the Snaphot selection in the unit menu??

I don't see it in the unit manual where that model has a Snapshot function.

Though not on the water, I just went out and tested it using a different SDHC card that I use with my digital camera on a regular basis. Same results, would not work.

This is the online manual that I found: http://store.humminbird.com/media/document/587_597_HD_DI_Manual.pdf

My unit is the 587 CI HD Combo

On page 31 starts the Snapshot & Recording View info. Also some info on page 89. Page 130 starts the Setup Menu info with the Snapshot ON/OFF on page 138.

I was informed by the representitive that I spoke to that the issue is my card. She said everything she could find only referenced a standard SD card and that the unit is not compatible with the High Capacity cards. SO I'm going to give it a shot. Since there are no standard SD cards in stores these days (even hard to find online) I've ordered a 2GB SanDisk standard SD card (for cheap) to see if it will work.
