Super User rockchalk06 Posted February 15, 2013 Super User Posted February 15, 2013 I got to thinking about something last night. When is using fish attractant on your plastics, to much? I love steak and I love sushi. But on the same bite, not so much. I use alot of Strike King Plastics, mainly for the coffee scent. I love it and have great results, but like to put JJ's or other Attractants on them too. When does using it mean to much? 1 Quote

PondBoss Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 When they start jumping in the boat as soon as you launch, but I think that's a good problem to have In all seriousness though, personally I think you add scent to baits that don't come with scent. But baits that come already scented are probably better left alone. 2 Quote

However, I've dipped Yum worms pre-scented with F2 because, to my nose, there wasn't much distinct - grab you - smell to the worms. And I'm also interested in what the scent-makers would say, but just to throw out a thought: ever mix soft drinks at Taco Bell (or wherever). Some mixes taste good, other mixes get poured back into the drain. You know, the Root Beer + Coke + Orange Soda + Grape.... I have tried JJs in conjunction with the Crawfish F2 spray before. Don't remember if I caught anything or not. But it didn't smell the best. (that was to my nose, the fish may not have cared) 1 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 15, 2013 Super User Posted February 15, 2013 I am discovering more and more scent mixes on the market. Craw and Garlic for example. This could be more catching of the fishermen than the fish again. I smile when scent topics come around because we smell it as if we know fish would like it. Like a chef smelling/tasting food they are preparing. I say when all else fails experiment. Quote

The videos on Megastrike have got me sold. I should hopefully have some to try these days off Quote

TrapperJ Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I have never used attractants myself, but I plan to experiment this year. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 Basses sense of smell, detecting odors in the water to locate prey is a very small factor. Catfish on the other hand have a phenomenal sense of smell and rely primarily in detecting prey by odors. Bass attractants are really masking odors that may repel or alarm the bass at the last second befor striking. You want to create a positive odor and taste and texture. The bottom line; you can easily over due attractants by creating a negative response from the bass. No scent is better than too many different scents. Bass see and hear/feel you soft plastic from a distance and when they get within a foot or so they focus on details, this is the moment a strike commitment occurs, odors are only a factor when the strike has occurred or very close to occurring. Super User Teal Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 Good stuff! Thanks Tom! Quote

Bobby Uhrig Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Hmmm never thought there is ever to much attractant. Come and watch what we do at fishing expos with it. There is a rising you g star named Adrian avena that is fishing the f l w tour. Ask him what he had seen today. As for too much attractant. I know that receptors can become saturated but never to the point of being called a repelling factor. Baits that have attractants infused have to be careful in the process. Many key ingredients can change molecularly when heated over a certain temp. Plastisol s are poured around 350 degrees. That's hot brother Anything below the surface is basically undetected or unused anyway Quote

I found that out the last two trips out dragging a football jig with a chigger craw trailer. I just didnt know if there were some plastics that were pre scented that it conflict with... but it did work well with those stinky chigger craws on my jig 1 Quote

My question was actually geared to using Megastrike on a Strike King coffee tube when sliding a weight inside the tube for lube and to make these finicky Oklahoma bass hold on just a tad longer. Your videos have got me dang near sold on it. Attracting the fish is my job, I just want the little buggers to hold on a sec longer Thanks again for jumping in! Quote
Titleman Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm a firm believer in attractants, especially MegaStrike. I've tried using a little and a lot. I find I'm having about the same results either way. The only thing using a lot does is waste a good product . I do as Bobby suggests and most often just use a "dab". I received my recent order from them today consisting of 4 new tubes. I crawfish, 1 garlic and 2 original. I have also tried the spray on type and find them messy and unpleasant overall to use. MegaStrike is about as simple to use as it can get, and no mess. The little film remaining on my finger, I just rub into and onto my hands to mask any human odors I might transfer to my bait(s). I never tried JJ's and have heard a lot of people singing their praises. If I ever see it around, I'll probably pick some up and give it a try. I've just never taken the time to order any since I've been using MegaStrike with such good results. Quote

gripnrip Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I don't know rockchalk. Sam may be rite. If my terrible Sooners can beat them they may not make it past the second round! You need to quit drinking the Bill Self smurf flavored koolaid. Quote

Road games are a different world. OU was the better team that day. Keep in mind we beat the tar out of OU in Lawrence this year too. OSU'S on fire but were out for blood. O and the Koolaid tastes much better than Krugers 1 Quote
nascar2428 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I know attractants work for catching bass, and now I know they also catch basketball junkies. LOL 1 Quote
